In most cars, you won't see a lot of gain when using an aftermarket intake. BUT, with our cars the OEM job is so freakin long/restrictive, that many people have reported between 7-10 hp when it's trashed. B) The hardest part of the job is getting the old intake out. Figure about 1 - 1 1/2 hours for removal of the OEM intake, and about 20 min to install the new one. C) Though pretty rare, if you install a CAI, be careful to avoid hydrolocking by staying away from large bodies of water! (Steeda's are almost guaranteed NOT to hydrolock, but they're not really "true" CAI's) D) Your car (as is mine) came with a Splash Shield underneath the front lip. DO NOT DISCARD THIS! It does exactly what it's name implies. E) I use the "Stealth" intake. http://www.ineedawebsite.com/Blazing...CAI/index.html You only purchase a filter ($27 at Pep Boys), and add it on to the bottom of the air silencer after you remove the remainder of the OEM intake. Here is the thread where BlazingCopper said he figures that the Stealth got him 6whp/7wtrq (and his car was a 2.0 Duratec!). http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...th+intake+dyno Not bad for $27 and just a few hours of work, huh? Good Luck!

Sorry for digging this out of the graveyard but it's the first result on Google and I got no other results searching for this in the forum.
With the "stealth" intake mod, will you run the risk of taking in water? I live in Florida and it rains a LOT during the summer seasons so I need to know before I do this mod. I did just a straight pipe into a filter for now with the MAF wedged into a hole in the pipe but I get a "P0171 Engine Too Lean" error code with the check engine light. I really love the sound that results from adding a filter like this so I hope I can do it without any risks!:) EDIT: I did find a thread but I'm still not finding an answer to this question :) |
