rear seat fold down latch not working

My rear passenger side seat latch that keeps the seat from folding down will not latch onto the seat . The knob you pull in the trunk seems to make the latch open but it will not close and hold onto the bar that is on the seat.
I lubed it up but no luck. Other than replacing the latch are there any other suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks, Mark

id take it off to see if anything is lodged inside. like a button, or sand clump.......then buy a new latch

sometimes you need to give thema good slam, otherwise check the latch mechanism to see if its not opening all the way where the lathch catches it, as in the latch piece is half closed and hits the medal which doesnt allow it to catch
