Question What intake do you have? Your opinion of it?

I'm just wandering what everyone's opinions are of the different intakes out there (there are so many!). I know a lot of people suggest one over the other (mostly Volant), but not everyone has a Volant or Iceman. What do you have and what do you think about it?

How many stars would you rate it (0 - 5)?

I had a K&N drop in filter with the resonator removal (heater duct tube mod) and I modified the snorkle to pull all the air from the drivers side of the upper grill (ghetto ram air)....this gave me a substancial boost when mashin the gas, especially on the interstate. I liked it a lot! (3 1/2 stars)

I now have a "short ram" style intake that I got off ebay (cheap). My car has a much louder "growl" to it now, but I believe I sacrificed some low end torque by using this setup. I still have the snorkle with the "ram" modification, but it is just blowing in the general area of my new duel cone filter. (3 stars...I gave it a 1/2 star for looks)

I have a Volant with an SVT snorkel.

I have had an Iceman and a short ram.

I am not fond of short rams overall.

I have seen just about every intake dyno'd though and there was never much a difference between them. All the nonsense about intakes making 5-6 whp and more fwtq is just silly. We dyno'd one of the first AEM kits on an SVTF awhile back. The guy made a few runs then installed the intake and made 3 more runs. He gained 2 whp and 1 wtq, this was with the same kit AEM on their site claims makes 6 whp over stock when using their dyno, how convenient!

I didn't say that...lol...
I just said it's the most common suggestion to buy. I want opinions on all setups. Some people may not be impressed with the Volant, and may prefer holes in their airbox...I dunno. Thats why I'm asking.

Custom intake for my PZEV.

Had a K&N FIPK on my Zetec. Wasn't really pleased with it.

Install was easy of the SVT snorkel.

The Volant has a hole in its airbox, a big one.

Egz: I think that K&N that you had is the one I've seen saying that it gives 26hp increase on their website....that's funny!

hahaha...if that was a little punch at me Focaltech, I was referring to the guy that drilled like 10 or more holes in the bottom of his airbox...coughsmrtsscough

Yea, thats the usual advertising gimic that a lot of companys do. I even seen Volant use it in an ad. There's the asterick and small print stating "gains from a Corvette LS-1 V8 with a potato in the tailpipe"

Wasn't too happy with the fitment, and it suffered from heat soak and bogged on launch for me. However, other people with it seem to like it. I don't care. Got it cheap off of eBay, and when I sold it, didn't take much of a loss.
