heated driver seat
first of all, i did a search and found some useful info on adding this to my 04 zts. but i need a little more info please. i work in parts at a ford dealership, so i can get the parts easily. i believe i need the following: lower seat pad(i dont need the back heated), heated seat switch, some fuses, and the correct console panel that has the cutouts for the switches. i believe i read that the car is prewired for it somewhere under the seat tracks. is that all? is there some sort of delay module to turn the element off? this is my wife's car, and i want to suprise her. we just took a 2003 Ford Expedition to FL that had heated seats, and she loved it. i don't really care about installing it on the passenger side....it's hardly ever sat in. please let me know asap. thanks in advance.

I can't answer all your questions, but I can answer one.
There's no delay module on mine, like you'd have on a rear window defroster. If I turn it on, it stays on. In fact, If I shut the car off, with the heated seat on, it will turn back on when I start it up again. Lemme tell ya, they are SAAWEEET in below 0°F temps.

Sounds right, though I don't know about the wiring.
I also think you use the same seat base cover, and the heating pad itself fits between that and the foam padding underneath. There is some info on this in the EscapeCentral.com (wife's rig) forum. Let me see if I can find it, though their search engine "bites".

yeah, i know the cover is the same. i can get the cushion complete with the element i know. will have to double check to see if i can get the elements alone, which would be better! then i could do bottom and back!

nah, just looked at all the diagrams and such, it appears as though it comes with the cushion only....which is weird because there is a recall on the elements. you get a replacement element, not a complete cushion. anyone have any ideas on which way to go?

The heated seats are thermostatically controlled, meaning they have a maximum heat level and then the elements turn off, and on again once the temp drops to a certain level. The switch is simply on/off, but the level of heat is controlled within the elements.
Heated seats come standard on ZTS/ZTW & ZX5 in Canada since '03. They are great I must say. When I took my ZX5 to get the 'recall' work done on the heated seats, they replaced all the elements on both seats upper/lower and man they work way better than when new. - Especially when you've got leather seats - ouch cold! |

^^^Cool.^^^
I won't worry about searching EscapeCentral. BTW, please make sure you keep the paperwork with the part numbers. I know someone was looking for the part numbers for the console piece and switches. RE: Seat Heater Recall.... Any idea which model years were involved? I punched my VIN # in this site, but nothing comes up. meaning they have a maximum heat level and then the elements turn off, and on again once the temp drops to a certain level. The switch is simply on/off, but the level of heat is controlled within the elements. Thanks! Ya learn somthin' new every day. Now I know why they cool off a bit, then back on again, even though the switch is on.
