Repainting front bumper

Hey all. My liquid gray front bumper has seen better days. When I get the time, I plan on repainting it with my dad's help. We have a standard siphen fead type spray gun, which should do the trick. My dad has had issues with repainting front bumpers in the past (1984 firebird). To prevent paint chipping, he couldn't use primer and the paint needed a special additive to make it more flexible. It also wasn't supposed to get a clear coat on the front bumper because of chipping if the bumper flexed.

My questions are, will I be able to use primer? If so, what kind would you all recommend? Does the front bumper need a special paint additive? If so, what kind. Can I use a clearcoat? And last but not least. Does anyone know what the paint code is for the focus liquid gray paint?

Thankyou for your time. Any answers or advice are much appreciated.

Depends on what type of base used and how much prep you do, the guy at the paint counter will know.

The bumper is flexible, so most likely yes, the guy at the paint counter will know.

Liquid Gray Metallic= CX

Just so you know, when painting, its best to use all the same line of products because they will work the best together, thats why the paint counter guy is your friend because HE will let you know which products work with what.

Duplicolor sells a gray paint that is a near perfect match to Liquid Gray.

I've painted my front bumper, with Duplicolor white enamel based.
Sand the bumper down with 200-320 grit, and spray 2, thin coats of adhesion promoter.
I didn't use any on mine however. I shaved the trim lines on my bumper, and used high-build primer.
Expensive stuff bought from a Local Auto paint store.
