ATX fluid change with RP?
I’m wanting to flush and fill my automatic transmission fluid with Royal Purple Max ATF. My Haynes manual only states how to do the Transaxle fluid, and looks to be a pretty lengthy process. I thought the transaxle was a collection of components.
Is the Haynes manual basically stating how to change the ATX fluid? Also, does anyone have any experience in doing this on an ATX and think the RP Max ATF is a good choice, or does anyone have any recommendations? Thoughts? |

Not sure of the process but I replaced mine with ATX fluid from Red-Line another fully synthetic very similar to RP and it works fine, no problems. I have been running the Synthetic for about 2 years. I believe the RP product line as well as Red-Line are pricey but very good and a good choice. I run the Red-Line motor oil as well.

The shifts say firmer, longer. Regular ATX fluid breaks down quicker and the shifting get sloppier, sooner. You should still be in the habbit of changing the fluid on regular intervals though. Stick with the recommended changing interval unless you drive the car hard on a regular basis, then consider changing the fluid more often. I believe the manual states every 30,000 miles.

Off topic I know but I noticed osiris_vdc... you and I have ATX's with almost the exact WHP/TRQ (mines 125/126) and almost identical mods but you have FR2's. I was hoping FR2's might get me into the 140 range but maybe not. I may just need to get the head as well.
My apologies for the post jacking...we now return you to your regularly scheduled topic. |
