Lightbulb Does anyone do "Track Days"?

Hey everyone...

I know alot of folks do autocrossing (which I don't find fun personally... )

DOES ANYONE DO ACTUAL TRACK DAYS? (and what I mean buy track days is actual professional racetracks - NOT A PARKING LOT WITH CONES...)

If so, does anyone do any in the IL area? I'm seriously thinking about keeping my 2004 SVT Focus and doing a few track oriented mods BUT I'm starting to get so damn upset at figuring out where and when I can go for a good day of car/Focus flogging...

Any insite would be appreciated (Yes, I know its the middle of winter...just doing a little research and looking for some advice...)

The good news is your in one of the best areas (Chicago) in the country for track events. What are you after...a time attack type event or an HPDE/lapping day?

I've done a few...its definitely more fun than an autocross; you get a LOT more wheel time, more speed and (at least at the tracks around here) you don't have to work while you're not driving. Its more expensive, but it pays off because you get half-hour runs opposed to a handful of one-minute or less runs. Autocross is fun and all, but you eventually need to graduate up to a bigger track.

If you're just starting, you might want to find a place that does a "fun day" or open track day...basically, just go out and run the course in a non-competetive setting to get your feet wet.

I have, up until I blew my engine.

Summit Point, VIR, BeaveRun. Good times. Once the car is all sorted out, I'll be back out there.

thefrush and dirtydeeds have got the right idea...

When you say IM IN THE BEST AREA IN THE COUNTRY...what would that mean. I'm know there are a few tracks in the area BUT I'M GETTING BEYOND PISSED OFF when it comes to calling up these tracks and trying to find out a day to go....

None post schedules of anything relavent when it comes to going for a casual non-competitive open track day...

If anyone can post relavent websites & links that could get me started, I'd really appreciate it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

OFF SUBJECT - thefrush...

All in all, what have you done to your car (no cosmetic) to make it better at the track...

I'm not looking to improve hp & tq, just handling...

I have done 4 track days with my SVT. 3 at Gingerman Raceway in SOuth haven Michigan which is just around the lake all 3 of these were with the Taurus Car club of America. The other was done at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois courtesy of the Saturn Performance club. There will be another track day at gingerman in the spring. Summer I know of a few going on. The Saturn Performance club will probably be back at the autobahn country club at some point next year. I really love to do it so I will try to keep everybody on here informed.
