OWners of the 2007 Focus 2 door hatchback, Educate me

I'm looking at ordering a new Focus 2 door hatchback or a Huyndai Accent 2 door hatchback. Can anyone here tell me why I'd be better off on getting a 2007 Focus instead of the 2007 Hyundai?

I'm only looking to buy a cheap 35+ MPG commuter here, that I can put 50,000 miles a year on it and then throw it away in 6 or so years. I'm gonna be getting it full cabin, with the CD changer, sunroof, leather, heated seats, heated mirrors, and all the other cool stuff, except the automatic transmission. I like the manuals better.

I see the Focus has a 2.0 liter, with 136hp and 136 ft lbs, and its rated at 2 mpg better on the highway than the Hyundai (bigger engine and more power along with better milage) and it also comes with cruise control, which the Hyundai does not.

Anything else a new Focus owner should know or be aware of? And any common or or trouble areas?

What kind of milage are you sensable drivers that don't have to floor it off every stop light averaging on the highway?

What is the RPM's in high gear at 65 or 75 mph?

Anything you hate about the car?

Do I need traction control or would I be better off without it?

To be honest I have not had good luck with new Fords recently. I love my old Fords, but I have had so much trouble with my 6.0PSD I'm hesitant to give any of my money back to Ford. But if you all say its worth it......

Thanks fro any information. I really appreciate it

If your putting high miles on it a focus is better. Hyndai's don't usually last more than 100,000 miles while this car will easily make it to 200,000 if you maintain it right.

the focus will be more fun to drive, and hyundia's trannys suck balls...even though they may post like 140hp+ on some of their cars, they still are slower then the focus. GO with the focus, it looks much better too.but look at em both, test drive them and see which one you like the best.

Hyundai Accent=110hp
Ford Focus=136hp

For about the same price, the Focus has almost 25% more power. I was facing the same decision.

i'd have to say that the focus is a lot better for you. all of the "full cabin" options that you listed are unavailable on the accent. looks to me like the focus would be a lot better of a highway cruiser because of those, especially the cruise control. i had my cc go out (tied in to odd fuse in 2000) and it gets really tiring on the highway trying to maintain speed myself.

I looked at used Hyundais and Foci before buying my son a Focus back in Sept. I could not find any Hyundai with over 50k miles that didn't shake apart at highway speed. I was impressed so I bought a 2007 Focus stick for myself. I only drive 35k miles per year. Worst mpg is 31.5 at break-in. I've hit 41mpg twice. Average is between 35.5-37.5mpg.

I'm not sure you can get all the bells and whistles with a stick. Mine is a base model with a/c. Rebate and 100k warranty for around $12k ain't bad. Plus the Hyundais have that funky interior smell.

Yeah I can get them all with the stick if I get the SES trim. It will run about $18,300 optioned up.

Thanks for the honest info guys, I really appreciate it, and keep it comming.

Also anyone know what the timning belt interval is?

more miles than youll put on the car. the motor in the current focus uses chain driven cams, so no worries there.

i just reread your original post, you dont want traction control, just abs. the traction control is non-defeatable (the button just lessens it) and therefore removes a lot of the fun of the focus.

also, thats about how much the sticker on my moms focus was, and she ended up getting the car for like 15K with minimal rebates. they are running 2500 in rebates right now, so if you have good credit take full advantage of them. after the rebates you are alread down to 15.8K, and id estimate you can probably get them down another 1K+. good luck, and
