remove reverse lock-out
ok well i took my shift boot off and looked around and i figured out how to disable the reverse lock-out. so heres how u do it.
Tools: 1/8 hex bit Time: 10 mins 1. remove your shift knob 2. push in the back of your shift boot and lift ![]() 3. now u have the hex bit screw on both sides remove them both ![]() 4. now that u have taken those off u still have the black connecting bars attached to the shifter. remove both of those (just pull them off). 5. now place the black block that the connecting arms were attached too. back to the base of the shifter and push it down into place. 6. remove the lock out handle from the shifter by pulling it up and off. 7.replace the shift boot. 8. replace or add your new shift knob. ![]() 9. enjoy

cool, but why would you remove that? just curious though.
that looks like you can pull that hurst shifter off and there will be a 12" concealed blade in there.

my '07 didn't even come with a lockout. I have never even come close to throwing it in reverse when driving down the road or freeway, or racing, so I dont think worrying about a lockout is a big issue.

Ok, Im bumping this thread because Im sick of searching and this is the closest related topic.
My father recently purchased his 2003 SVT, with the 6-speed getrag trans. He bought the car used, and there is no reverse lockout on his trans. Im assuming from this thread that originally, there WAS a stock, reverse lockout? My father is 72 years old and a long time car fanatic. I wont deny that he was probably quite sharp in his younger years, but I believe his old age is slowly getting the best him. I haven't driven his car on the street, due to my drivers license being suspended, but from riding in the car with him, Ive noticed he has quite the struggle getting into 1st and 2nd gear. I cant tell you if I'd want the lockout if the car was mine, but I can assure you, he NEEDS IT. Its such a problem that if its not fixable, I would strongly suggest him to sell the car. Please, someone tell me if 03 SVTs with the Getrag transmission came with a stock reverse lockout or not and if so, would it be possible to purchase the parts needed to reinstall it? My father survives on a very tight budget, and I would hate for him not to get the most enjoyment from his purchase. Please, someone help. Edit: Reverse is left and up, to avoid any confusion Last edited by Vicodus; 05-08-2007 at 03:25 PM. Reason: ^^ |

this post was for the non-svt 5 speed transmission. the svts have a gate that you need to push through in order to get to reverse. it's right next to 1st gear. you have to apply quite a bit of force to move it through the gate and then up into reverse. i've never had no problems or accidents or heard of any with the svt where people would shift to reverse on accident. that "gate" is all we have, there's no "lift up" locks outs on the svts.
