Pirelli P3000 All Season Tire Review

Our 2001 SE sedan had about 19K miles. The original firestone tires seemingly had no wear but they were NOISY as hell. We went looking for tires aand found a good deal on Pirelli P3000 at Discount Tire.

On dry roads the noise level is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the firestones. No comparison. Now I can hear things like trans whine that were covered up before. I can't discern any tire noise at all. Very good.

Limited exposure on wet roads tractions seems good. I have a favorite on ramp where I take my cars near the limit and induce limit understeer to see how the car behaves. These tires have good grip on the wet and break away very predictably. Wet weather braking is very good. They are new and I could not find enough water to make them hydroplane. These things start with 11/32 tread as they come with a 85,000 limited (pro rated) tread life warranty.

These were not much more expensive than the entry level store brands. Discount tires in MI have a $30 rebate going if you print off the coupon on the internet. These seem like high quality tires for this car.

FYI - I know the manager at our Discount Tire and he let me mount and balance these on their Hunter 9700 machine (I've been trained to use it before). These tires took little weight on my stock alum wheels. The assemblies yielded a maximum 1st Radial Harmonic load force (R1H) of 7 lbs. that's indicative of a very high quality well made tire. Don't confuse balance with uniformity. Uniformity is the measure of the variation of the radial spring rate of the mounted tire around its circumference. Even with perfect balance a tire with high radial force variation will make your care shake. These tires are silky smooth on this car up to 100 mph.

Good tires all around.

Have a Great Holiday!

RKJ

update

these tires were rated for 70K treadlife and with decent rotations we got closer to 46K. Discount tire honored the treadwear warranty and got us into a new set of Pirelli (P6) for less than half price.
