Side impact airbags

Hello-

I have a 06 Focus SE with side impact airbags. My girlfriend purchased me seat covers. Where does the airbag come out of? Is it OK to put regular seat covers on them? Will they disrupt the airbags on impact?

Thanks.

no do not put seat covers on your seats with side air bags or they will not work right- read it in your manual

The airbag is in the seat. The seams are designed to rupture when the airbag is fired in a certain way. If you put a seat cover on it, you could possibly deflect the airbag in such a way that in the event of an accident you'd pin yourself between two expanding airbags- one in your back and one in your face. You'd live if you didn't get internal injuries, but it would hurt very very badly.

I suggest doing what I did- just get one of those seat pads that covers the center part of the seat where you sit. Mine even has a Ford logo on it

There are seat covers that are designed for seats with side airbags. I've seen them before. You just have to search the web for them and they don't tend to be cheap. Bascially they have a flap over the area where the airbags deploy that easily rips away when they blow. Just google 'seat covers for side air bags'.
