PZEV road test in Autoweek

Finally a complete road test of zx-3/pzev. This weeks Autoweek, Tuner special has a feature on the focus-but their quarter times are really slow like 16.6, witch is half a second slower than car and drivers test of the heavier wagon. They mention high winds-I gues so! Otherwise a good test and a good issue.

Yeah, I saw that too. They also listed "dated styling" as one of their dislikes along with the usual complaints. I dunno, personally I still think the Focus is one of the most modern-looking cars on the road. I guess they mean it's due for a change, but I don't think based on the reactions here to the 2005 pictures that the change will be a popular one....

The wagon has the least drag of all the Foci.

Prolly does that would help top speed if we didnt have limiters but wouldnt make up for being a porcine 300 lbs more than a zx-3. in the Quarter,or o-60 I would expect the "Hot Hatch" to smoke it!

Those 1/4 times are really low. They should run 15.6 to 15.8 bone stock.

Yes the times were very slow. the Mazdas were much faster. a dyno I saw last year comparing the mazda 6,(same engine as 3), had the Mazda @130road hp and 130 torque while the pzev was 126/136. since the zx-3 is over 200 lbs. lighter I would expect it to be Quicker, not slower Car&drivers wagon was Quicker and its almost 300 lbs heavier.they said high winds messed up their test. the should have re-tested. My guestimate for a stock quarter would be 15.9

For the design view,

I do not think the Focus needs to be changed in body type. For one, it retains the value of the car in the past and also...it isn't like the look it dated. Honda released the new SI basically copying the style of the focus! I feel that it is still up to date, but maybe a few minor changes will keep it alive!

Couldn't agree more on the style. It is a classic and still one of the best looking and modern looking cars on the road. Unfortunately, the 05 is a done deal and such a step backwards!! It will be showing it's butt-ugly face at a dealer near you soon!! Even the new Euro Focus' and Euro Ford's have gone downhill on styling. So be glad if you have an 00-04 Focus and snag an 04 soon if you want to get on board. Not to mention that great 2.3 will be gone also. BTW the C/D drivers are pretty good at getting near max acceleration. I think the .01 CX improvement on the wagon would not at all compensate for the weight, not even on the 1/4 mile.
