Fog light mod Question

I did the fog light modification http://www.focusfanatics.com/howtos/foglight/ and i was wondering if this has had any effect on the life of your fog lights or just any electrical problems along with the spade crimp termials in your fuse box

all the mod does is prevent the car from checking whether or not the headlights are on when u try to switch on the fog lights...

before:
"car, please turn on the fog lights"
"headlights are you on?" "no"
"sorry, no can do...turn on the headlights if you want fogs"

after:
"Car, please turn on the fog lights"
"ok, if you insist"

doesnt change their life at all...except you will probably use them more frequently now, so they may go dead from more use...

and as long as you got the spade crimp terminals on well enough and have them inserted sturdily enough...should be good to go...a lot of people have done this mod and i havent heard any complaints...anything goes wrong, just put the relay back in

Erm, correct me if i'm wrong here, but due to the design of the headlamp switch, you can't turn on the fogs without the headlights, hack or no hack.

What the 'fog light mod' does is allows you to run your fogs while the highbeams are on. Normally, when you flip on the highbeams, it cuts out the fogs.

Your Wrong.
At least here in the US.
A realy in the fuse box prevents the fog lights from being turned on when just the running lights are on. The mod alows you to turn on the fogs before you turn on the headlights.

The fog light mod does what the others above are saying, it will allow them to be on with out any headlights. The switch will pull out without the headlights being on they just will not come on that way unless thge mod is done.

Actually, it does both. The only time foglights can be on are when the low beams are on. With the foglight mod, they can be on with running, lows, and highs.

Reading this forum it seems some think the fogs will work with the HIGH beams after the mod. My 2005 came with functioning fogs in LOW beam, not HIGH beam. I have done no fog mod. The fogs have always worked with just the parking lights on.

Does the fog mod actually enable fog lite with HIGH beams? Thanks.

Yes...basically, the fog lights work as long as the switch can be pulled out to activate them. The stock setup uses a relay that checks for the low beams to be turned on...if they are, it completes the circuit and turns the foglights on. Doing the "mod" deletes the relay and completes the circuit with the wire, putting them in an "always-on" mode.

Really, I could never understand why Ford did it like this (I guess they did away with it in the 2006/2007 models) when it can be bypassed with elementary wiring skills and a two-inch piece of wire. AFAIK, there aren't any laws on the books that you cannot turn your fog lights on without the low beams also being on, and that they must switch off with the highbeams. Prehaps its a design retention from the original European design that simply never got worked out of the system until now...
