SVT throttle body ?

I am concidering getting the focus central 65mm throttle body to get a little more pickup and better throttle response.
Do these really improve performance or just improve the throttle response, I would think that the throttle respone could be improved through the linkage.

Also I have seen that some of you have ported your stock throttle body, which is the best way to go?

MuDvAyNe, you are right about the throttle body being 66mm! but your missing one important point, it's "JUST" 66mm at the opening, and it's 63mm from a hump that's in the middle of the throttle body, but if you get the Focus-central TB it's going to be 65mm strait through, but lots of people just port it, to get 66mm strait through, it's also a hell of alot CHEAPER to just port it yourself, if you don't know how to port it yourself you can always bring it to some performance shop and they can do it for you for about $50 cdn funds! hope that was some help, also here's a link on a how to port your own throttle body courtsey of essveetee

Hope my link is helpful. Some clarifications though. The stock TB isn't 63 mm at the hump...it is 63 at the outlet. I never measured the hump, because it would be hard to approximate exactly how much it constricted flow, but yes it does, and yes, it is less than 63. If I had to guess, I might say around ~60 mm or less.

I could be wrong on the FC piece, but I believe it is funnelled like the stock piece. I haven't measured it's inlet, and I've seen varied numbers. Your best bet would be to call them and see what it is...but all that really matters is that it is 65 mm at the smallest point (the outlet).

IMO, porting the stock TB is a no-brainer so long as you have the time and resources. I can't see how spending ~$300 for a TB is going to be worth it right now, so I did this. If I can get a good deal later on, or run out of things to do to the car, I'll consider buying one.

Just my $0.02, take it for what it's worth...

I have checked out the DO IT YOURSELF link, and it appears to be very helpful. But I have to say I wouldn't mind having some literature on exactly what those pictures are depicting. Is there any way essveetee could write some captions for whats going on in those pictures, please?

I put my FC throttle body in today. The opening of it measures 80mm!! I would think since it shrinks to 65 on the other end that not only will more air flow into the engine but at an increased velocity.
