Need to update my head unit. I now have a CQC700U by Panasonic.
Price: 150-200 can't remember exactly
Rating: easy 10

Perfect for my application. 3 preamp outputs. AUX input currently for my MP3 player. Wireless remote. Great control of SQ.

Zune hiding out in the pocket

I really enjoy this unit. My favorite feature of it, is that it is extremely easy to use, thanks to a touchscreen. All the menus are easy to navigate, unlike many other *cough*Alpine*cough* units I've owned. The sound is superb, and it has anything and everything a sound quality enthusiast could want: 3-way active crossovers, time alignment, independent speaker gains, phase adjustments, and so forth. The only drawbacks of this unit are that the time alignment is in centimeters (wtf. This is America. Land of the free.) and the equalizer is only three bands. Despite the lack of a ginormous equalizer, it still sounds great and needs little adjusting.

There's an iDA-X305 in my future (I hope) so this is my temporary setup.
I picked up the 9870 HU on eBay for $35 and added Alpine's KCE-422i "full-speed" iPod cable. Because I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch, I also added the charge adapter from Scosche - it cost almost as much as the HU did!

The silver colour matches nicely with the faux brushed aluminum dash:

The iPod integration is really great, though the HU controls are a little clumsier than the current models:

Night pictures always suck, but I couldn't resist:

Sooo, I'll bite...

Company Name: Pioneer
Model Number: DEH-2100B
Price: $119.99
Overall Rating 1-10:I'll give it an 8, considering the ease of use, connectivity for my iPod, and it overall gives me what I am looking for in car audio. The only reason why it lost two points was A: how difficult it was to find the dash kit, and B: the fact that I now have to resort to mail-order on the wiring harness.

This is the test fit, as I have a harness on the way. I lost two of the 7mm bolts when doing this as well, so I gotta replace those, which I hope are not as ridiculously impossible as finding the wiring harness for my stereo!

An update: The stereo is now installed, and works very nicely. For stock speakers, they handle the volume from this unit and scream for more. Tested it using various music genres, from a combination of using my iPod Touch (which, I quickly learned how to scan through my iPod using the HU), my blackberry on the AUX input, and all sounded much MUCH better than on my stock system, and using the FM transmitter for my iPod / Blackberry.

Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase.

Company Name: DUAL
Model Number: XHD6425 -- It's an HD Radio with a USB slot which is used for charging my phone & GPS and I listen to music on my 8GB Flash/Thumb Drive (comes in handy when the Zune dies!); then it has an Aux port for my Zune which holds other lists of music plus videos. It's got a LOT of FM/AM presets, but I only listen to one station.
It comes with a handy remote when I'm working outside the car and want to change a song, the face is detachable and you get a little holder to protect it , it's Bluetooth Compatible, and it has a sub output then two sets of preamp outputs.

Price: $129 with all the free stuff from Crutchfield Self-Installed
Overall Rating: 10/10

Can't say that I have any dislikes with it. It's very user friendly and def improved the sound from stock. It's not super high-tech with all these crazy sound settings which I don't understand anyways :p so most probably wouldn't be interested, but it's great for me! When I upgraded, I just needed an Aux port cause FM Transmitters suck, and I saw the USB slot which is awesome. I was given two subs and an amp for free, so now I just have to work on speakers

My only complaint is that it doesn't light up Purple ;P (as is my Theme). I'm sure it's quite feasible, probably Surface Mounts like the HVAC was, but I'm NOT about to dismantle the radio...

Here it is lit up, but the blue looks wayyyy better than this and not as "light blue", darn phone cam.
