Everyone likes to blame the assembly line worker. But if you look at most of the parts that fail, the line worker could have had little or no control over them. The product design / engineering and suppliers each have at least as much impact.

We'll have updated results next month. More participants remain needed to fully cover all model years.

Updated results soon.

We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful.

We've updated the results for the Focus to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 39, about average, close to "better than average"

2008: 65, about average

2007: 68, about average

2006: 34, better than average

2005: 47, better than average

2003: 117, about average

2002: 173, worse than average; based on results for other model years, the actual repair rate is probably a bit better than this

2001: 129, about average

2000: 113, better than average

We had sufficient sample sizes for the 2003, 2005, and 2007. The other results are asterisked and only visible to members on the site itself.

A big thank you, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and fully cover all model years.

415 Focus owners now signed up. A good start, but more are needed to provide precise results for all model years.

Looking forward to having quick initial results for the next gen Focus!

Everyone, we have over 68,000 members on this site. Even allowing for those who aren't active currently, can you imagine how much more useful information about Focus reliability Mr. Karesh could offer our community if we all signed up with truedelta.com and responded to the periodic surveys?

I've done it, as I appreciate the value of his statistical approach to answering questions about what I'm experiencing and what I might expect. 415 owners isn't a very large sampling; we can do better and get more in return. Please sign up and contribute your experience with your Focus/Foci.

Many thanks!

Thanks for putting a good word in, Chrissy.

We've updated the results for the Focus to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 22, better than average

2008: 64, about average

2007: 84, about average

2006: 60, about average

2005: 41, better than average

2003: 126, worse than average

2002: 128, about average

2001: 95, about average

2000: 85, better than average

We had sufficient sample sizes for the 2003, 2005, and 2007. The other results are asterisked and only visible to members on the site itself.

A big thank you, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and fully cover all model years.

Just enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May, with a preview for participants in mid-April.

Those updated stats in about a week.

Good participation by Focus owners, but continue to need more participants to fully cover all model years.

We've updated the results for the Focus to include owner experiences through March 31, 2010. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 22, better than average

2008: 52, about average

2007: 93, worse than average

2006: 65, about average

2005: 58, about average

2004: 72, about average, very small sample size

2003: 112, about average

2002: 90, about average, small sample

2001: 148, worse than average, small sample

2000: 144, about average, small sample

More consistent from year to year than in the past, because more participants and more data per car.

A big thank you, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and fully cover all model years.

Updated results next month.

For the Focus, an unusual number of model years are only a response or two short of the minimum. So even a few more participants per year would be very helpful.

To help get your year fully included:
