I'm new, and I need your help with my Focus

Hi everyone. Sorry for the hasty intro, but I'm having a problem with my car, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem.

My wife and I have been in the market for a second-hand car (a wagon) and I really wanted to get a used Focus because I'd heard and read good things about them. Last week we finally found a very clean used 2000 wagon at a good price, so we bought it. It drives and rides great.

On Thursday we had torrential rains, and yesterday morning, when my wife got in the Focus to drive it to the dr's office, she found that the floor on the passenger side had around 2" of standing water. At first I thought the window had been left opened, but the seat was bone dry. After further inspection, I found the underside of the dash (near the heating vents) to be wet, and the matting under there was kind of warped, like it had been wet before.

Then I remembered when we picked the car up. The carpet was damp from recently being shampoo'd. Now I'm wondering if it was wet from leakage, and the dealer shampoo'd it to create an excuse for it being wet.

I want to take it back to the dealer, but I'd like to know exactly where it's leaking from. So my wife and I brought the car to a coin-op, high-pressure car wash last night, but even after 15 minutes of blasting, we could not re-create the problem. :(

So now I'm not sure what to do, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if this model (or older Focuses in general) have a history of leakage. I don't want to assume that we left the window open, only to have another carful of water after the warranty is over.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Ya i had that same problem. Take it back and tell them there's a TSB on it so it can be fixed for FREE. It replaces the passenger side cowl panel. I had it replaced when i still worked at ford.

Wow, thanks everyone.

Now I get to take it back to the dealer and listen to them tell me it's not their problem because they're a VW dealer and it's a used car.

I guess I just don't expect much from dealers.

Don't take it back to the VW dealer. Take it to a Ford dealer, they are the only ones that can do a TSB on a Ford.

Recalls are free TSB are not. Even a used car will come with some type of warranty, ask for the sale manager if the salesperson gives you the run a roud and get something in writing

Agreed! That'd be the easier route to take.

Thanks. I have a local Ford Dealer where I used to have my Cobra serviced. I think I'll swing it by them.

My wife's just pissed, because her iPod was destroyed in this fiasco, and she wants blood, heh. I think if I took her back to the VW dealership, I'd be bailing her out of jail.
