00 ZX3 head unit swap ! How to make it easy...
What's up !
I was looking for replacement head unit for my 00 ZX3 with built in XM . I found what I needed and stop by BestBuy to get a harness to plug my Pioneer unit to the factory harness without cutting it and I bought a kit to drop and fix the radio to the factory location. I was not expecting it to be so easy. First time I swap a factory radio just by doing plug and play . I know for most of you it's nothing but I was surprise how easy it went for me. I know it's not the top of the line head unit but I have no intention ( as of yet ) to upgrade anything ( speakers or subs ).  This is the kit I bought , It's like a block lego kit , you can move parts to make it fit your needs.  This is the harness kit I got , All color matches ( almost ) the Pionner radio , just solder wires and you're done .  ]Now I just have to drop the unit in the factory location .  Factory harness .  Just plug it in .  Push the radio back in place and you're done...

Now it's time for the XM receiver to be installed .
 I just stuffed it there....  I removed the factory antenna and installed the XM puck instead , even without the FM antenna in place just by plugging the Pionner to the antenna cable it's working fine. I ran the wire beside the factory cable ( not shown here ) .  Forgot to take a pic of the XM antenna on the roof but here's one from my 03 ZX3 ( with the same set up ) Just different color .

Nice choice with pioneer. I have a pioneer head unit, and I love it. It took the guys at circuit city about 4 minutes to do the install on mine. I was amazed how quickly they had it done.

More you do easier it gets... This was my 2nd time with a Focus but this one was the easiest one so far.
I signed up to my XM account and time to wrap up the tools in the garage and put the car outside , I was already getting full signal.
