Angry whats up w/dealer costs

How can a ford dealership service mgr say whith a straight face that a 50-70$ part and a 5min install will cost me 388$!!
My 04' is out of the warranty, and the engine light comes on, so I take to service dept. to check code, (still saving up for tune+diablo reader!) find out hego oxy #1 sensor got fouled when a grocery bag melted on the header btw svc said it wont do that, but i read it could and the engine light came on 2 days after , anyway i figure they are problably charging me for the 2 hrs the battery has to be disconnected to reset the code light? Any thoghts? btw i work for a major airline and our ground equip. techs use napa parts b-cuz the eq. uses ford pts so i get a discount .

Thats an easy DIY fix so...... just do it yourself.

But yes they are charging you more of a labor fee than anything.

It also costs $16 for a new trunk release button for the dash. We're talking about a piece of plastic that probably costs less than 15 cents to make. And the funny thing is, there's nothing wrong with mine. I asked them why the damn trunk won't open when I push the dash button, but it works fine with the remote. The guy went looking for a price on a new button. Uhhh...

Unfortunately at the least I'm going to need to get my automatic transmission fluid flushed, since I passed 30k miles a while ago. It's going to set me back $150 to do that, but I'd feel more comfortable with them doing it. I'm not a DIY type of person, so with some things I just have to take it and get screwed anyway. Sigh...

Oh, and you don't want to know what a "performance diagnostic check" costs. I asked them why my car won't start or why it stutters sometimes. They said they'd need to conduct this test on it. For a test alone it's a hundred something dollars. Then probably a hundred or so more for whatever part they'll need to fix/replace it.

I'm thinking about taking my second problem to an el cheapo mechanic, who could probably figure it out much quicker and fix it for a lot cheaper than Ford. It could be something as simple as an ignition switch. But I don't think I'd trust transmission work with anyone but Ford. That's something that you really can't afford to mess up with.
