Focus Noob...

I recently bought a Focus SE 5 speed. I love my car it rocks, but there is one thing that is bothering me and I'm not quite sure if this is normal or If I should have it looked at. Its kind of hard to explain but I will do my best. When I start off in 1st gear its fine but when I switch to 2nd and im just crusing in 2nd not pushing it to the limit, the engine sounds kind of werid, almost like its having a hard time going that slow in that gear but if I go faster it stops. It seems to only happen when im starting off in a higher gear and not pushing it to go fast right away. Does this make sense? haha. Sorry, I dont explain things very well. But I was just wondering if by chance someone else is having this same problem. Maybe its normal? If I remember correctly its done this from the very first day I got it. I just bought my car about 6 months ago and I just hit 6k. Anyone with some sort of insight on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a Bunch!!

sounds like your just in a gear that isn't right for the speed of the vehicle. You need to keep the engine reved a little . It isn't like an auto that you can stop with the clutch out and in gear. I take it you don't have a tachometer? If not, having one installed will show you what I mean. You shouldn't have the engine below about 1200 rpm when just crusing. try keeping the car in a lower gear than you have been, and see if that helps. That doesn't mean keeping the revs up so it sounds like a sewing machine!!
