So I havent apid much attension to this thread lately, but I really want to get involved in road racing, not so much autocross. I am currently building my car but have stalled out becasue I am trying to figure out what club and class to run in. Should I run SCCA or NASSA. I really dont want to go bacwards in my car setup but it seems like I may have to. I am currently building my motor right now and this is a huge part of rules and regulations.

NASSA Spec Focus says I can not run my Koni suspension kit, I have to run Eibach.
Cant run my focus central race header, have to run svt

Its stuff like this i dont want to get rid of

Any guidence would really help

The SVT header is probably an upgrade from the FC one. As for Eibach, do they demand parts used by sponsors, or is it the type of suspension that you have?

I think that the FC header may be a little more free flowing just becasue of the lack of bends in it but point being is that you can only use parts that the sponsors sell. It really sucks.

Does anyone know of other classes that the focus is allowed in?

So the SCCA offer two divisions that I may be able to run in. Showroom stock and Production

Showroom stock is similar to the NASSA focus spec class

Production has 4 levels, none of which mention a Focus but they mention civics and dodge neons( not srt4) and then the usual integra, bmw and so on. The production classes allow much more mods and seems like the class I would like to run in.

I still need to attend more driving schools but this upcoming summer is going to fun. Does anyone race in any of these classes?

Too bad. All forms of competition have rules. The real racer decides what class he/she wants to race in and then builds a car to the class specifications.

Go through driver's training, get your licence and build up your car for the NASA Spec Focus Series. It looks like the only class where you have a chance of being competitive. You would not be happy racing in SCCA's Showroom Stock in your Focus as it is a definate underdog.

I have been to one drivers school so far, but i am building the car right now. I am not selling all my parts to compete in a lower class. I dont have the money to waste on parts.

I have spoken to some SCCA directors and i will run in the improved touring class. So I will not have to remove the parts I have now.

Just to make sure, you do know that at this point you will be woefully under-specced for Improved Touring , and that even if you aren't spending enough to be competitive that road racing is going to cost several thousand dollars a year, right?

Yes I do. Money shouldnt be too big of a problem. I am continueing to talk to the directors and it seems like I should build the car and then later they will choose a class for me.
