yep another mileage thread!
i know theres probably another mileage thread somewheres but im starting a new one anyways...my pzev has 3400 miles and im only getting 26.5 mpg. thats all i ever get is 26 something. i sure hope it improves this summer (it has to) but my zetec would always get about 30. im not complaining but the 2.3 does rev less. i was hoping to get in the 40's on the highway if i keep the thing about 2200rpm....anyone try this and see?

For all freeway driving, the most I have ever gotten was 350miles to the 14 gallon tank.

40 mpg, I think is a little high.

Personally, I think 40 is do-able. Assuming you are talking about nearly 100% of the time is on the highway. And assuming you're willing to drive in the right lane at a steady 55mph, and make damn sure to avoid stop-and-go traffic, and keep your right foot out of it. Aerodynamic drag is the issue here, so keep the windows closed. Minimize use of A/C too. Somebody ought to try this! Personally, most of my miles are commuting and relatively little is highway so it isn't going to happen for me.

I averaged about 36mpg on my Zetec with all highway driving when I drove to Cali last year doing about 65-70mph.

I find that driving from Badger Pass (about 7,000 ft down to San Joaquin Valley - about 200 ft yields excellent MPG). Not to make light of the 40 mpg quest but I think it would take something like that to hit 40 in a 33 mpg rated car. Does seem disappointing though not to be able to hit 30.

___Excellent and I knew the PZEV was good for 40 mpg! Have you ever heard about the “driving with load” technique for traversing hills while archiving maximum mpg’s?
