Quick question. Did the Focus take over the Festiva?

What model was replaced by the Focus?

Focus replaced both the Escort/Tracer and Contour/Mystique lines. With the ZX3 and "W" taking over the hatchback and wagon duties of the E/T and the Foci sedans taking over for the Contiques.

If you're thinking of the Festiva, that was replaced by the short-lived Aspire, which really didn't aspire to be anything other than abyssmal. At least with the Festiva, you could drop in the B6T (Mazda 323GTX, Mercury Capri), BP (Escort GT/Protege), and BPT (Japan-only) engines for some serious power potential.

In a way, you could also say that the svt focus replaced the Probe. The car that was supposed to become the new probe became the Mercury cougar.

I own a '90 Festiva LX, currently on long term loan to a friend. The Focus is similar, in that it takes a small size and gives you lots of interior room. They are also both well-balanced and handle pretty well for their size and are fun to drive. Seating positions are also very similar.

The Festiva, however, is about as small as you want to go and still fit a 6 footer inside, and the Focus is huge in comparison.

The festivas were tanks. Well built, for the most part.

QFT

My sister had one when she was in high school and that car no matter what she did would not die. That included her little brother (me) taking it over some rail-road tracks alittle over a safe speed............They will fly LOL. Thing is it never even phased that little car.

....and the Probe itself was supposed to be the replacement for the MUSTANG would you believe, but Ford got such an uproar over that one, that they kept building the Mustang, and offered the front-drive Probe as well.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the Festiva and Aspire were actually built by one of the Korean car companies (Hyundai or Deawoo) ala the newer Chevy Aveo... in my opinion I think Ford should have stuck with the Fiesta and kept it similar to the Euro models, but what do I know?

Mr. SVT himself (John Coletti - does anybody else miss this guy as much as I do?) was credited with saving the rear-drive Stang...
