Timing Belt on an SVT

Hey everyone, just kind of planning on when to get my timing belt done. Its an 04 SVT with 48K miles. Coming from being an avid VW owner, I would always change mine around 60 K. I have also been told timing belts should be replaced every 5 years regardless of how many miles have been put on. Just wondering what mileage you have all replaced yours at? and if any of you had a timing belt break with low miles on it.
Thanks for the help

I replaced mine at 95K, probably should have been done sooner, I'd say like 80 or so. Never really heard of one prematurely breaking. I used to be real into VW's, I had a 94 Passat GLX. Loved that car till it turned into a typical old VW and broke every 14 miles.

You should have a 60 month 100K powertrain warrenty on the car. So, I wouldn't pay to change it untill thats expired. Ford covered mine when it went at around 75K. luckily it didn't do any engine damage. My brother has a little over 95K on his and its still going stong. im changing his as soon as his warrenty is out. If you do change the belt be sure to use a new tensioner and idler pulley. The idler let loose on mine and not the actual belt.

They have that listed for replacement ast something ridiculous like 120k. I didnt buy that and replaced mine at around 78k .. .when I looked at the one they took out, it was in great shape. Still no regrets for playing it safe.

Is this something that's easy to do for an average mechanically inclined individual?

IMHO, no...
You have to set up the VCT, and if it's not done right (repeated DTC error codes) you have to pull everything apart and start all over again.

Here's the procedure:

If you are worried about it, just wait untill your warrenty expires. Just be sure to replace the tensioner and pulley too.

This is the second time I have seen the tensioner and pulley mentioned. last time I asked and no one responded. How and when do these fail in particular?
