Smile ZETEC 1.6 Manual, Auto difference?

Hi everyone! A newbie here who just wants to know a little more about
the Focus. Can anyone out there give some comments on the difference
between the 1.6L Auto & Manual version in terms of power and drivability.
Just would like to know cos we only have the 1.6L ZETEC Auto version
here no other models.....wondering if swopping transmissions to a manual
one would make a difference...or if it was worth it at all.....cant change the
engine cos we would get into trouble. Please advise. Thanks!

Cheers!

The main difference between the two is this:

MTX - a lot more fun to drive i.e. Shifting. YOu can get more power off a manny tranny. i.e. it can hold more HP. You won't spend as much to get the power you want. Racing applications a manny will win 99.9% of the time hands down

ATX - Slush box, Ford Foci's ATX tranny prone to damage i.e. weak. You won't handle as much power. not as fun to drive unless you go crazy with the mods

as for a swap. Not even worth your time and effort. Cost is just to high for what you pay you'd be better of getting a Lantech Tranny although where you live I don't know

Heya Moe-van1,

Thanks for the reply man.... I guess a MTX tranny is the way to go.
but in Singapore where I live, we dont get any focus in MTX...weird right?
Anyway still have some time to consider on the car... but it does look real good.
Probably will have to go for the ATX one...any recomendations?

Cheers!

if you do have to go with an auto thats alright to. I myself have one. The only thing that I can suggest is get a 2.0l if you can. If you haven't bought the car yet, I would suggest if its available is a Mazada 3. Otherwise let me know what you get

It is interesting that you mentioned the mazda3...that model is newly available here and
the orders are backed up.... they do come in a variety of choices, but how come the comparison? I know that the chassis is based on the focus C-Max but other than that
do you have any orther comments to add?

Mazda3s are supposed to be reeeeeeeally sweet. I was debating on getting one when I traded in my Focus SE but I love this Focii so much that I just ended up with a ZTS.

As for the Manual vs. Automatic thing? Well, I wanted the Manual, but the wife wanted the ATX...well, the wife won because there were only other SEs in Manual the and the ZTSs at the dealership were ALL automatic. Also, she is so happy with the ATX that she doesn't give me a hard time about modding it tup.

No complaints though, it rules in traffic. Brake-gas, brake-gas, no clutch involved, know what I mean?

The Mazada 3 I would have to say is what the focus should have been. The stlying is bang on, performance is tight. And with the pricing its hard to find a better car in its league. I can tell you if I had a go at it again. I would buy the mazada its just to bad they were a year late.

Focus - stlying it is/was good to much of an ecno-class look to it
Performance- can be good to moderate
Value - Also, a good bang for the buck.

I am sure this will stir up some debate. Which should be good
