Drag strip times stock 2006 zx5
Ran at Pittsburgh Raceway Park yesterday.
Definitely not my first time at the track but first time with this car. Full weight (plus some junk in the back), 1/4 tank gas, stock tires full psi. I do have a poly trans mount and a shortened stock shifter with a mustang shift knob. Track elevation is 1250'. Temperature was around 60*F. 60' 2.491 1/8 10.485 @ 66.32 1/4 16.351 @ 84.32 I shifted around 6500 and powershifted every gear. I rode out 3rd but feel I should have shifted into 4th (did on the 2nd run). The clutch didn't like a 6500rpm powershift on the 1-2. I could feel it slip, but never did smell it burning. I got a bit of wheel hop the first run but not enough to lift. Second (and last) run was after the slick cars ran and got the track very sticky. I got some violent wheel hop and had to lift for a 16.5 sec run. What advice do you all have for eliminating wheel hop, other than riding the clutch and creeping out of the hole? What rpm do you duratech guys usually shift at? I'm not at all disappointed with that time, given there's room for improvement on the 60' time and possible shift point tweaks.

not bad times btw. Slipping the clutch might help wheel hop, and I have the 2.3 duratec but I shift just past 6000 rpms(probably not evn 6100).

dumping is when you say have the engine revving 3000 rpms say and you let it complety out in one fast moition, where slipping you slowly let out the clutch or feather it basically. SLipping on our cars is a better launch method, but is detremental to the clutch.

I shift at 6,000 rpm, because I thought our ST's didn't make power much past 5700 rpms. ???

If we shift at a higher rpm, then the next gear you catch is gonna be at a higher rpm, thus putting you into the meatier part of the engine's powerband. Right? So if we take that info and apply it in an example of the 1/2 shift: 1st gear @ 6500 rpm = 35.1mph 35.1 mph for 2nd gear puts us at 3990 rpm Now if we shifted at only 6000 rpm: 1st gear @ 6000 rpm = 32.4mph 32.4 mph for 2nd gear puts us at 3680 rpm So by shifting at 6500 rpm, we go up 300 rpms further into the engine's powerband at the next shift. Now (going by zx3chick's stock dyno sheet below), if we shifted out of 1st at 6000 rpms, we would be in 2nd gear at roughly 3700 rpms making 87hp. But if we shifted out of 1st at 6500 rpms, that would put us into 2nd gear at about 4000 rpms making 102 hp. ![]() So what we should ask ourselves then, is how much hp do we "lose" when prolonging the shift to 6500 rpms versus 6000 rpms? Well, at 6000 rpms we're making about 127hp, versus about 117hp at 6500 rpms. So we lose 10 hp in extending the upshift. But, we gain 15hp by being higher up in the engine's powerband in the next gear. So all in all, we're a little ahead of the game by shifting at a higher rpm. Right? Man, I've got a headache ....

Yep. I tell everyone that and your like the first one who actually understands it.
EDIT: Your numbers are a little off as well. The shifts are 6500-4064 and 6000-3750. 6500 is 124.61 6000 is 129.71 4064 is 102.66 3750 is 93.03. 6500-6000 is -5.1hp 4064-3750 is 9.63hp. Which gives you a difference of 4.53hp. So you were close on the difference.
