Hi wintrjr,

I'm glad to hear that you're squeak-free! This is a great community full of people who have lots of valuable knowledge to share. If you're ever stumped, feel free to reach out to me or give your local dealership a call.

Hi katkrazy2007,

How did the DIY approach work out for you? If you need any additional assistance, please let me know.

Thanks for the great suggestion, Edgenet!

Have a great day,

I'm gonna have to check this out. I have a horrible squeak in the right rear area. Hopefully it's just this. I took my ZX5 in to get inspected and they said it's probably the trailing arm. They game me an estimate to replace both of them that would cost almost $1k. They said the bushings are bad. Okay.......

$1k?! Wow. Sorry to hear that. It would be tempting just to live with the squeak if it wasn't going to degrade the drive quality. Or sell the car. I took 2008 SES to the dealership because I had a squeak in the rear suspension when I drove over bumps or on a bad road or gravel. It was like a creak/squeak deal going on. They said that they didn't find anything and they greased the bushings, etc. It made the noise go away and I was ecstatic. But I have been disappointed to hear the squeak/creak returning.. and now I can hear it a little when I'm going fast on the highway (previously, I only heard it when going slow and now it seems the opposite nearly). I think next I'm going to take it to an outside mechanic. I just want the squeaking gone. It very well may be just the e-brake cable, although Ford said that wasn't the problem. I don't know. I haven't had anyone who knows that it looks like take a look for me. Not to mention on cold mornings it has been making a loud "crunch" noise when I first start off and hit bumps for the first 3 minutes of my drive. I don't have a clue what's going on, if the two suspension issues are even related...

I am really glad I found this thread. I have been having this horrible squeak ever since I bought this 2007 focus over a year ago. I have tried everything to the suspension. I read the above suggestion and thought surely this is not it. It can not be this simple. How could a cable going through a loop cause this horrible noise.

Well I found this loop and cable and slapped some white grease all over it - see photo below of cable, loop and grease. Problem solved!!! Wow, I could not believe it. Thank you so much for this thread.

I tried the same fix to my 2007 wagon and it worked great. The car has never been quieter.
