Question A rymthem Ticking noise

Hey everybody. SO my situation is I have a ticking noise outside the normal 4cyclender noises. Its kinda weird it comes and goes BUT when u hear it its a louder ticking noise that sounds like it's coming from right where the intake manifold is. Or right in the cam area.

Was hoping anyone here has that or might know what im talking about ??

Mine has that issue right now. Louder than usual, notice it a lot when ordering food in a drive threw haha.
I did have one issue with it once so far.
Loss of power, the engine was misfiring or something. It was awful when it happened but I went away haven't happened for over a month now.
It's winter and I don't want to do anything under the hood in this -20 -30 weather. But I'm sure it's those tumble flaps

Diagnose the problem. Use the mechanic's stethoscope or sound probe trick. Listen for the sound in the valve cover and then the intake manifold. You should verify that the sound is in the intake manifold.

Replacing the intake manifold is the only way to get it back to normal. The other method is to remove the tumble flaps which will reduce low end torque, but might be the only option for people who can't find a good used manifold.

If you do need a manifold: look in our vendor section and send a note to Village Ford. IIRC their price was $225-250. That should come with the gasket, but gaskets are about $20. Another thing to consider at this point is the thermostat. My thermostat is 9 years old and so when I remove the intake, I'll be replacing it. That should be soon since I have a 3rd car now. If you thought the intake was expensive, wait until you see what a thermostat costs for this car. It's $150. Yours might even cost as much as the intake manifold if you have the one with the sensor built into it. I don't know what year that started. Use a mirror to see if there are any electrical connections on the thermostat- yes, our thermostat is located at the other end of the lower radiator hose- not the upper hose. It's under the runners for #1 and 2 cyl.

BTW, if you're lazy. I have gone to 160k miles. My tumble flaps started rattling around 100k miles. There has been no major self destruct. The flaps are mounted on a shaft, and it's what holds the shaft down that wears out causing the flaps to rattle. I've been on this board for 9 years, and I don't remember ever reading where a car self destructed due to tumble flaps. Just curse the car "Damn Ford", and drive it.
