if you did not get the contour version, you will regret it when you realize that you could have saved yourself the hassle of having to replace it again soon. |

Ok and by cheaper I did not mean in anyway it was inferior. For some reason it is half as expensive as the Zetec housing cover. 8592 (RH81) is the contour housing? Are most fanatics replacing with that?
Would I regret the ribbed leaking problem? |

just got a thermostat housing, cover, t-stat and waterpump. All "motorcraft" parts. The housing cover has a slighly raised edge seam around the surface where it should meet the t-stat oring.
The housing is kinda dusty and also has some raised plastic edges near the mold seams. The t-stat bleed/check valve ball is rattling a lot more than the one I held in my hand at the dealership. Are the quality control guys in dearborn mi sweeping the floor stuff amazons way? Ill post some pics later. |

I always do whatever it takes to remove that little ball valve or poppet to leave simply a hole. The valve has a tendency to corrode shut and then you lose the bleeding that occurs every time motor starts up. The engine never sees that small hole when running, silly to have the valve in there. I actually drill a 1/16" hole in every stat I put in a car that does not have one. It needs to face straight up at 12 o'clock.
