Ford Ranger 2.3 -> Focus

How hard would it be, and would there be any benefit to swapping out a 2.3L from a Ranger to a Focus.

Benefits could be there depending how you went. The 2.3 will have more grunt, but someone correct me if I am wrong, the Ranger 2.3 still uses the 2.0 head so make sure you pick up a 2.3 head for extra power.

Ranger 2.3 has a 16v SOHC... It's barely anything like the Zetec. Not sure if it would bolt to the mtx-75 tranny... might have to do a rwd conversion...

Anyway, it'd have some more low end torque but that'd be all... Same power benefit can be achieved with less work with a better exhaust, header and intake...

I think your confused .

It would be a Duratec to Duratec swap he is talking about. SOHC is exactly why I said bring the head over. Furthermore on top of that, the 2.3 Duratec with a 2.3 has quite a bit more pep in its step. That's why the ST sedan keeps up with the SVT.

The only part I'd use from a Ranger 23 D-tech is the crank. You'd need a 23 head, focus timing cover, chain, guilds. You'd need to mod the a/c bolts, as 1 or 2 bosses need spacers. I'd used a 23 out of a escape, fusion or foci & then grab a ranger crank & then your golden.

Why the Escape/Fusion variant? They both use the Mazda VCT head, which creates its own unique set of complications for swapping into a Focus.

The Focus 2.3L alone seems to be the closest to a plug-n-play solution by a pretty significant margin, if there are any available near by.

The fusion 2.5 short block with the Focus 2.3 head works very well and I have helped a few get them running , One has been running in a rally car and it is very strong
