Well, I just scheduled an appointment on Monday to get my update for my 6-speed dual clutch. Seems like some dealers are willing to hand over the update (another poster on this board did), some dealers will still give the ole "its not a torque converter" mantra, and some dealers (the one I just called) don't know that there's a TSB out there, and when researched will come up with it. And the dealer I called fell into the latter (after I went to another dealer who gave me the mantra).
I'm happy with my DCT but I'm willing to see what this new update does for the transmission (in terms of smoothness and less hesitation). Hopefully, I'll have some noticeable difference. Did anyone else get an update? If so, how'd it work out for you. I'll let you know my thoughts after a good drive on Monday.
Yes my complaints are very poor throttle response and sometimes I feel like my car is in neutral when I gas and the car does not accelerate smoothly. The rpm's jump from 2 to 4 it looks like. Had the update and after the break in period the symptoms started again.
Took my car in for the steering wandering and the transmission update. Just received a call stating that they had ordered the parts for the steering issue per the TSB. Asked about the transmission and they said it's possible the steering issue is causing it, but they weren't sure and there weren't any codes being thrown (thanks [facepalm]). Think when I drop it off in a few days (they still have it right now since I am without a car and have no way to get there currently. Getting to work when it goes back in is going to be interesting) after they get the parts in I am going to ask specifically for them to check the transmission TSB since according to the text of it it deals directly with a number of things I am experiencing.
I had scheduled my appointment a week ago and the tech who set it up said they'd probably need it most of the day for testing and fixing. Dropped off the car and a half hour later received a call asking what I wanted looked at. Apparently the guy I set it up with wasn't there today and they had no clue why my car was in for service. I had to explain my issues again (not a huge deal, but somewhat disappointing wrt preparedness). Three hours later received a call explaining the above.
I was honestly much more interested in the transmission update than the steering wandering issue since the transmission effects me at a much greater frequency, but oh well, progress is progress.
IF your dealer wont pick you up in a courtesy vehicle, you need a new dealer. Just call em and tell em you have no ride. They will pick you up. hope it works out for ya.
yesterday I drove a brand new 2012 at the dealer ... seemed quite stable even without the BS 1000 mile transmission break in. My 4/1/11 build has had transmission oddities from the day we picked it up ... then we got this 1000 mile "break in" BS, then we got this TSB coming, then we got a second TSB to fix everything ... then we got this 1000 mile break in BS once again. but the 4/1/11 still didn't match driving the brand new car yesterday which had 30 miles on it. Tell me again what the 1000 mile BS thing is supposed to do?
so Tranmission specialist actually drove car yesterday [we are at 5500 miles in 11 months] and said this is not right ... and currently he is "researching" what to do. But is thinking that we probably are going to need a new clutch. I'm thinking that if that clutch change is like the new car ... I won't even have to think about the BS 1000 break in period again.
Maybe the BS 1000 mile break in period was just to see if the old clutch would make the grade ... sort of like a coin toss?
They have offered me one everytime ive gone (3 times) one time they were out and they had a guy from enterprise drive out there and set me up quick....but my is also very busy and they hold my car usually like 3 days each time
And guess what???? you didn't have to do the 1000 mile BS "break in" ... someone should tell me again if the 1000 mile break in applies only to dog version transmissions.
I'm at four days at dealer service ... and counting.
I'm guessing Ford is all over the transmission supplier right about now. They jumped down my mother in law's throat (quality engineer at TRW)over a metal burr left on the side of the steering knuckle on the Mustang...
I wish I had the newer clutch in my car. Still does not run smooth after TSB 1,2,3.... blah blah. My dealership wont know what to do and Noemi (no offense) will tell me to pm and it will "escalate" to the service manager when the SM does not even know how to fix the problem himself because he knows nothing about the new clutch! didnt even know about every TSB we had durrr. Focus fanatics has been my savior in helping fix my issues! We know more on here then they do at the dealership ha
Just got the updates done to my car build date march 22 2011 and it definitely improves the low speed smoothness and and deceleration issues I was encountering. I got it done at maroone ford in ft lauderdale. they said they have not ever done this on any car.
they also told me they had to drive it on the highway at 70mph plugged into their computer. Has anybody heard of this?
Well, due to the growth of this thread (leaping & bounding []), for those owners experiencing issues with their Focus; please make an appointment with your dealer and PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can get this escalated to the Customer Service Manager for your area.
Once you make an appointment; inquire as to the availability of a loaner. However, as much as dealerships would like to provide a car to every customer needing service, the decision to provide a vehicle is based on availability and/or an extenuating circumstance. This is why we offer rental provisions under our Extended Service Plans. Check out the link; I'm sure there's a plan that will perfectly match your need.
@hoffmanr09,
I'm not offended. [] When you're ready, just send the PM with the necessary information.
@me2000,
So excited for you! Thank you so much for your patience; now you can enjoy your Focus as you originally desired.
Take care everyone; I'll be on the lookout for your PM's. []
Should we be PMing you if we get this done, or just if we have issues with our dealer, mine has the issue but it is minor enough that I am just waiting until i go in for a oil change and don't expect any issues with my dealer doing it.
Im not sure if this answers your question but another fanatic on here had their clutch replaced with the newer version that is on the Focus now but no official mechanical fixes besides TSB 12-1-4
I guess I should start by saying I'm a relatively new 2012 Focus owner. I've had my SFE for 3 months and have 4500 miles on it (build date is 15.08.2011). And I have the Automated DCT
I took a couple test drives and was impressed by the overall driving characteristics of the car. This is also the first time in 19 years that I've owned a vehicle with an automatic transmission of any kind.
I've noticed a few oddities after I had the car for a few days. The oddities persist to this day.
1. There is a VERY slight shudder when the car shifts at slow speeds (meaning low RPM and low gear). Accompanying the shudder is what sounds like a heat shield rattle.
2. Initial acceleration from a stop is inconsistent. Sometimes it starts off smoothly. Sometimes there is a sudden acceleration. This is all with about the same amount of foot pressure on the accelerator.
Other than that, the transmission seems to perform just fine. Throttle response is good. Shifting is reasonably smooth. All the varying responses to the 12-1-4 TSB has me wondering. When I go in for my first maintenance, should I request the TSB be applied -or- specifically request that the dealer DOES NOT apply it?

Ditto.Well sounds like your focus is a clone of mine. When the shop forman at my delership rode with me he said that the noises were "normal" as far as it related to the DCT since I have never owned a vehicle with this type of transmission I can't say that he is wrong. I also get the ocasional shudder and vehicle rolling backwards on slight inclines but these are intermittent prior to the TSB update they were much more prevelant.
Metallic Clunking Noises from the suspension were not normal and my left lower control arm was replaced so far that noise has not returned.
Apparently most dealers don't respond to you telling them there's a TSB. You have to describe the symptoms that are covered by the TSB and don't take no for an answer. Tell them you've driven other Focus's and they don't do what yours does so you know it's not normal and you won't pick it back up until the shuddering is gone.
I dropped off my car for the MFT update this morning, and mentioned that the DCT shuddered and had some dead spots while accelerating.
When I picked up the car, I was surprised to find that the dealer performed the 12-01-04 TSB update. I was half expecting a "could not duplicate" entry on the work order.
After putting on 120 miles of highway/suburban/urban miles this afternoon and evening, I never noticed a single shudder, and the DCT was more receptive to my right foot. I still have some dead spots, but they are minor compared to what I experienced before the update.
The only missing variable is warm weather. It was between 35 and 45 degrees F today, and most of the shuddering I encountered in the past occurred when the temps were 70 plus degree F.
Well, dropped my car off half an hour ago for the steering wandering issue and stated specifically that I wanted them to look into 12-1-4 to address the issues I informed them of last time (they weren't open yet, so wrote it down on the little issues/service request sheet they have there with the key drop-off). We'll see what happens. I'm fully expecting them to say that there once again isn't any error codes being thrown and therefore no issue [screwy], but we'll see.
let me remind everyone with shudders ... that there is NO REASON that your car should drive any worse than a brand new demo car that hasn't been "broken in"
Use that as the standard to which you want your car to run.
It took me 11 months to realize that the 1000 mile BS break in period was just that. these transmissions are just under MFT as a "released" too soon ford screw up.
I'm thinking about the "extended" warrantee once again.
Well, just got a call from the dealership. My car needs to stay overnight. Apparently a two bolts (or something like that) didn't come in with the parts they ordered and they have to keep it overnight as they expect it will be in tomorrow. Not sure why it took them 8 hours to find this out, but whatever.
They're sending a reservation to Enterprise so I can have a car (I just have to get there. Funny how after they asked if I had some means of transportation for tomorrow they didn't ask about me actually getting to the rental car agency). Completely slipped my mind to ask if I was going to be the one paying for it, but my ESP says it's not something I pay for so worst case I make them reimburse me. Here's hoping for a neat car.
