A friend of mine is looking into purchasing a used 2012 Focus. He may not be buying from a Ford dealer however. He would like to know if he could go to a Ford dealer and purchase an extended warranty package despite not purchasing the car from a Ford dealer. Please note: this would be from a Canadian dealer. Can anyone give me some information on this?
IF the original warranty is still in effect. (ie under 36,000 mi) the original warranty is still in effect and he should be able to buy the extended warranty.
If the car is out of factory warranty, then no, he will not be able to buy a Ford warranty unless the car is sold by a Ford dealer, and the warranty is sold with selling the car. IE he cannot go back later and add on a warranty on a used car, out of factory warranty.
(just like anyone with the factory warranty in effect can go add on the extended warranty anytime up until the original warranty is out. Once out, you cannot add on the extended warranty).
This is not official, it is just my understanding of how Ford operates the warranty stuff.
