new noise from the rear. maybe shocks?
so this already squeaky car has added a new noise to its collection. noticed it 2 days ago and it seems to be getting worse. when im stop and go in wonderful houston traffic, if i have to brake semi-hard, as im coming to a stop i hear a low scraping sound coming from the rear end that continues for about a second after i come to a stop. also, if i do a pretty quick launch, i can get it to make the noise although for not as long. my roomate suggested it might be the shocks that are extending and compressing when the nose dips on semi-heavy braking and a hard launch. i had originally though it could be something from the rear brakes but since i hear it on launch that disproves that. the car is at 180k miles, im the 4th owner i think, so they could be original shocks possibly. what says the forum? shocks going out? ive never heard of shocks making this crazy noise before, but its the only thing that seems to make sense

Idk about SVTs, but on some later models the parking brake cables can squeak. I haven't had issue with mine but I know some people here have had that issue so hopefully they can chime in.

well its not a squeak, its a low, whooshing scraping sound is about the best way i can describe it. i need to see if i can hook up my go pro somehow this weekend to be able to see if the mic can pick it up, but i kinda doubt it

tried jumping on the back of the car to compress the shocks, couldnt make the sound. not sure if i pushed them down enough or not. ughhh what is this sound?!!!

Check your rear sway bar bushing end links.. mine squeak because all the rubber is gone and it's metal on metal.. corners, pulling out of driveways, sharp turns and what not.

Could be anything. Just need to get it on a lift or jack it up, get under there diag it urself.
