Exclamation '05 airbag replacement.

New to the focus, first post, quick question about airbags.

I'm looking at buying a focus that was wrecked lightly in the front, it's an '05 ZX4 SE, drivers airbag deployed. I know with a basic airbag system you've got to replace the airbag itself and the sensors, but I'm not sure with this system. Does the car have pretensioners in the seat belts? If so, do both go off if only one airbag goes off? Is there anything other than the module, sensors, and possibly seat belts I have to replace? If anybody could let me know I'd appreciate it. I tired a search but couldn't find anything about this particular subject.

One last question, I noticed the '05-'07 airbag is shaped slightly different on the bottom and has a larger emblem, but is there any reason I can't use an '00-'04 airbag?

As I understand it, once an air bag deploys, all codes must be cleared and the control module reset. From 05 on, Focus has a weight detecting system in the passenger side seat cushion, with its own module mounted on the bottom of the seat pan. If there is insufficient weight on the passenger seat, that air bag system is disabled. You might ask a Ford Mechanic whether the pretensioner is part of that SRS. As for the earlier air bag, most 00-04s had a different plug for the driver side bag. Good luck.

Thanks! That answers a few of my questions, I'll get in touch with a local dealer and see if I can get a little more info from them.
