how likely is it

how likely is it to get a possible clogged up exhaust? the muffler to be precise.
i have a catback exhaust, no catalytic, so just a resonator and muffler on my ride. for some reason i have an exhaust leak between the flex and resonator, that is unfixable. tried new gasket and gasket sealer and everything. keeps on breaking after the first trip. really loud and annoying between certain rpms.

clearly something is restricting the flow and i doubt its the resonator seeing its basically a straight pipe. that only leaves the muffler since it doesn't flow straight through.

my exhaust is 2 years old, magnaflow. could the interior part of my muffler been broken up possibly within then and jammed it up a bit? exhaust still flows out the back. or could something have crawled up and died inside?

i noticed this saturday night, cold enough to see my breath, that when idling, i noticed a little exhaust i believe it was coming from the front of my car like header or by the cat probably caused by the restriction.

i read that poor exhaust flow can make the car not run idealy which mine isn't atm.

i have 2.25 inch piping on my catback whilst the header to flex is 2.5.

should i just go ahead and get a new exhaust at 2.5 which is what i want or should i just go ahead and only replace the muffler?

it isn't damaged in anyway from the outside that i've seen.

i don't think an engine problem would make this problem seeing that it would flow normally out the rear.

this started up last winter. possible animal climb in for the warmth after a drive and then die?

Does any exhaust come out the muffler ? when you sealed it up did it run really bad at first then it ran better once it broke free ?

If your sure its the muffler disconnect it and see if the cars runs different afterwards.

I would try having a friend hold a rag around the leak for a second and see if you get any flow out of the muffler when the leak is sealed.

also exhaust work is pretty cheap usually, shops around me charge like 50-60$ to fix a leak if its not replacing much more then a gasket or a small hole.

nah no exhaust is escaping from the muffler.
i've noticed it runs a little better when its fixed for that one ride back, after than it blows open again

i know exhaust work is cheap, but i think i would need to replace a muffler all together, it wouldn't break open where it does if there wasn't something restricting the flow.

my mpg's are down to about 12-15 mpgs right now

Have you made sure that everything is strait and the header or something is not bent just ever so slightly to put a load on the pipe that causes it to stress the gasket and make it leak?

i've made it as straight as i could before tightening, the 2 mechanic shops also did it as best, they used an exhaust stand too but it still busts open.
could the hangers get so old and stretched out that they would sag that much?

They could actually. Maybe try getting some new ones? When it's hanging there do the pipes look like the flanges line up flat?

this is what my exhaust looks like. i feel like the hangers aren't hanging low enough but maybe it is lower than normal.
