Iv been noticing the joints from my intercooler to the intake side has been leaking and today my bov started blowing out oil,and oil in my throttle body ,my turbo is boosting fine and no smoke or large amounts of oil usage. Only thing I could guess was the hose from my crankcase vent leads to the air filter that sits right in front the turbo where it sucks in air could have blown oil through the system? How can I clean the intercooler and pipes ,and stop this crankcase oil from getting blown into turbo system. I'm new to turbo setup, help would be great!
Moved to the Forced Induction section for more help.
Not the turbo expert myself, most mention using a filter on the valve cover (intake) PCV system hose & a catch can on the engine (PCV outlet) hose for turbo systems.
PCV hose from engine to intake is more hidden (behind intake) than the obvious one to the valve cover.
Normal PCV air flow is from the valve cover hose through the engine, then through oil separator in the side (helps direct oil droplets back to the pan) through the PCV valve to the intake.
When this is left connected to the intake, under boost there is no normal PCV flow (PCV valve sealing) and all blow by has to find it's way out the normal inlet tube at the valve cover. PCV valve could stop sealing well and then you'd be loosing boost back through the engine & out the top hose.
Either way you end up with a lot of engine gasses & oil finding their way out that top tube & into the intake.
I was having the same issue. I put a oil catch can, with a filter on it, off the valve cover breather. I have it venting out the filter, not back into the intake. Left the pcv valve hooked up the intake manifold. Have not had an issue since.
Is there anyway I could see a picture of how yours is setup, and there is no smoke at all and my wide band air fuel gauge runs a little lean but that's how it was tuned, and how can I clean all of the oil out?
^yeah, if you have your PCV system hooked up this will cause the issue you're having. Def get a catch can.
