I've got a 03 svt zx5 with 248k. Compresion is to spec and it does not smoke. I was thinking about adding a turbo.
Should i turbo as is and wait untill i have motor problems or should i pull it and rebuild.
Who makes a good kit? I only want to make around 220-250 hp to the ground.
I would personally not feel comfortable installing a turbo on an engine with that many miles if it hadn't been rebuilt. Seems like it's just a ticking time bomb.
To be fair, to do it correctly you should build a motor properly before going turbo anyways no matter if it has zero miles or a million. Miles also do not matter if your car is running like a top.
At that mileage, the least I'd do is a complete teardown, hone cylinders, new lower-compression pistons and forged con rods, new timing parts, valve seals & water pump.
take the engine all out. re surface the head, bore and hone the cylinders and replace all bearings with oem spec. bout 2 grand later its a brand new engine
I have a very nice SVT Turbo kit and I can do your tuning remotely
My I would put the turbo kit on and start with low boost and have fun , I would but a good rebuildable core and slowly start building it as you can , boost is addictive and byt the time you get the engine ready you will be wanting more boost then the 280HP you have at the wheels
