driver door handle

hi, i have a 2002 focus 5 door hatch,
i recently had to replace the driver door lock mech and central lock mech
as the lock mech broke meaning driver door could only be opened from inside car,
now the lock works in locking unlocking and opens from outside but to open the driver door i have to pull the handle twice, i had to do this before the last lock broke,
can anyone shed some light on this, is it some sort of safety feature ,seems strange that you have to pull the handle let it go then pull it again to open the door after the car has been locked but once the door has been opened only have to pull handle once to open the door.
all other doors work fine so its just the driver door this happens to.

Typically when this happens it is because the first pull is unlocking the door and the second opens it. I had a car that had a sticky power lock and this happened occasionally on it. Did you clean everything mechanical before reassembling the door? Perhaps it is only partially unlocking and the first time you pull it, it unlocks completely. Then you can open the door

yeah, cleaned all parts,it used to do it with the original too where i had to pull the handle twice when i unlocked the car and the same again all other doors were fine ( only had to pull handle once like now) it is only driver door this happens to, got me puzzled as i had a year 2000 one and never had this

If you cleaned it and it still has this problem, most likely it is an electrical problem. If you can see a door lock indicator, try unlocking the door and observing if the indicator is showing fully unlocked or if it is only partially unlocked. If you cannot see the indicator, listen very closely. If it is only your driver door then you have either a relay problem or a wiring problem. What kind of sound does it make vs. the other doors when they unlock? Does it fully indicate that you unlocked it the first time? Does it completely indicate that it is unlocked after you pull the handle?

basically when i press the fob the sound is like a schhhump noise same as when i lock it.
i have to press it 2 times to open other 3 doors, 1 time to lock and then again to double lock and indicators flash 2 times to indicate double locked,on the inside of the car the little lock indicator ( where pull door open pull lever is shows the car is open but have to pull hadle 2 times, i only have to pull 2 times from the car been locked, once the door has been opened and closed ( unlock open door close it then open it again i only have to pull 1 time but if i lock it up again then its 2 pulls to open

It sounds like it is not unlocking all the way on the inside. You said it used to work correctly right? Try switching it out with one of the other doors that works correctly to help isolate if it is the actuator or the relay or an electrical problem if you haven't already.
