Amsoil motor oil study

I came across this on the Amsoil website. Supposedly they did a study consisting of six different tests to see how Amsoil compared to other motor synthetic motor oils. It was pretty interesting to read but I am somewhat skeptical. Thought you guys may like to read this.

http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g3115.pdf

If these results are indicative of real world properties during use I would definitely switch to Amsoil. Amsoil also states its good for up to 25,000 miles/1 year with their filter under normal driving conditions. The only question I ask myself is if the oil would behave in the same manner after 25,000 as compared to other oils(Mobile 1, Castrol, etc.) with more regular oil changes (3000, 5000, etc.)? If you know what Im saying.

It's marketing BS. Plain and simple.

If Amsoil was really as good as their marketing team makes it seem, manufacturers would be using it instead of it's competitors.

Competitive performance, the "big deal" was their recommended drain interval.

Note the "or 1 year" stipulation, and the assumption that the others would be changed at the average interval for all oils.

Extended drain interval could be done with any of the oils listed, testing after use might have been more interesting.

(Lots of threads on extended drain intervals, not going to revisit that)

Cheers

Although not widely used as an engine oil test, the Four-Ball Wear Test provides a means of comparing relative wear-protection properties of lubricating oils.
What that means, is that they aren't trying to determine the actual wear-protection properties.... Just give a misleading "idea" as to what those wear-protection properties might possibly be. Basically, that "test" is useless.

I won't say that Amsoil is the best oil out there, but it's certainly not that bad. They do make good products. They also do a very good job at marketing their products. For instance, do you see anyone else releasing testing of their product head to head with others? Market share complacency is what I call that. We don't need to because people trust us, even though they only shop for a name.

I don't personally use Amsoil. But I do admire the work they put into their products.

And using their products isn't going to destroy your car. So if saving $50 is that big of a deal, have at it.

Some products have real fans.. The folks who are true believers.. Glad to say I am not one for Amsoil.
I rave for Mobil One personally. Generally because i go for mainstream stuff.
Otherwise not a lot of difference for any sort of normal human being driver.
And if the additives are good for 25,000 then the additives take up a lot of space other oils use for oil.
And actually the length of oil life has a lot more to do with the particular engine and the driver's habits than the oil once you got the bases covered.

Been running Amsoil since 06'. I run the 20K oil and change it every 10K. Oil looks and smells like new when I drain it out. No damage and all is well. My oil pressure went up, oil temp dropped and gas mileage rose slightly. This is what Amsoil has done for me.

Yeah I agree with Sailor in that I would like to see a test performed after it is drained after 25,000 miles of use. That would be very interesting. I personally don't and have never used it before but I thought it was an interesting piece of reading material. I wouldn't mind giving it a shot though sometime in the future.
