Newbie on the look out

Hi fellow fanatics!
So many of us are meeting on these pages, great vibe! I'm Guillaume and I lived in Europe for most of my life and enjoyed the twisty roads and the rally cars tradition.
I found FF on the web looking for SVT reviews, critics etc..all I found just confirmed what I already knew deep inside: an affordable little bomber who likes to play the way I do.

I tested my first focus today, 04' sonic blue. It has 98k miles on it, freeway it seems, asking $8,995 (really negotiable for cash buyer, offering 6k?). A brand new clutch is the only sign of maintenance provided. Rides smooth, no leak, no weird noises. Engine check light is on though. now on the lot for about a month.
Anyone would like to share their experience/judgment on reliability, whether or not too be worried by high mileage? I read about bearings, engine surge, clutch, overall quality.
If you know a post that can help, thanks for redirecting me.
Did I mention I loved the ride?
Thanks,
G[driving]

Alright, time for the introduction! My name's Dean, I'm 22 and living in Connecticut. I got my Focus just under a month ago and have been lurking around this site ever since. I got myself a CD Silver SVT 3-door with just a hair under 50k on it and the thing is a blast to drive. Up until now I've just been doing my own oil changes but this car has totally sparked my interest in cars that I knew was there all along. Where else are you going to find a car thats fast, handles great, gets good gas mileage, and can fit my mountain bike or set of drums in the back?! Well, my escort could do it too, actually, except for the whole being fast part. [:)] Glad to be part of the community!

Hi, I found this site by accident. Just looking for info. I have a 2004 Ford Focus, 4 door ZTS(I think that is the order) Love the car but I have had the control panel replaced under warranty, transmission repaired under warranty and now have to pick it up tomorrow with another transmission repair. I'm supposed to pay a $100.00 deductable but I don't want to since I'm retired and on a very fixed income. I don't have the $100.00 and would have to borrow the money. I think they should eat that $100.00 because the trans was bad from the begining. Anyone else have trouble with there 2004 FF. I was hoping this would be the last car I would buy. Also It won't be paid for until Aug 2009 and the powerchain warranty is up Feb 2009. Wish I could work on my own car but I'm an old grandma. Over my lifetiime I have had 5 brand new Fords. This is the only one I have had trouble with. Go figure...70 years old with a lemon. Wonder if it was built on Monday or Friday. I just hope Ford doesn't mess with me.

Guys,

I'm new here, but I'm not a new Focus owner. I own a 2003 Focus sedan, and it's the best car I've ever owned! Nothing has the mix of performance, fuel economy, and practicality that this car has. Unfortunately, it has an automatic trans.; I got it used, so I couldn't equip it the way I like. Still, best car I've ever owned...

I found this site by doing a search. I have questions about my car, and I figured a place like this had to exist. They exist for motorcycle owners (I own a Kawi W650, and I owned a ZRX1100 too), and they're good resources if you're a bike owner. I figured as popular a car that the Focus is would have a huge online community, and I was right...

Not a 'noob' but glad to be here....

Hi all. Even though I've been a member here since '03, the majority of my time has been on FJ since a lot of the sites, etc are on the West Coast where I live. I was a member there since '01, but I've just grown tired of all the bad attitudes, name calling, belittling and general disrespect for one another, so I am going to be on FF now. I have a lot of friends on FJ and they will always be my friends, but the other stuff I can do without. I currently own an '03 Focus SVTF in CD Silver and have 132,000 original miles on her w/COOL-FLO intake, BORLA exhaust, STEEDA sts, MSD ignition, PREDATOR tune by FOCUS-POWER, 65mm throttle body & 2 pc UDP by FOCUS CENTRAL. It is my 2nd Focus in a row, my previous one was an '00 ZTS. By profession, I'm a 911 dispatcher/paramedic and I live in San Dimas, CA. I was going to trade in my SVTF and buy a new '09 coupe, but have decided that I will probably just hang on to what I have for the time being anyway. I hope to be able to fit in here and contribute what little I can so please say hi. -Cliff

Hello All!

My name is Jackie (as in Jackie Chan, Jackie Gleason, Jackie Robinson).
I drive a 1994 Buick Roadmaster with Crager S/S Wheels and Magnaflow exhaust. It has 213,000 miles.

I have decided to sell my Roadmaster and get a Focus Wagon. Can anyone tell me how the ZTW and ZXW differ?

I joined escape-central when I got my '05 Escape and got so much out of the help and info. the gang gave that I was looking for the same when I bought my Wife's '08 SES. I have to say that most of you give some really good advice and seem to be very knowledgeable about Focii! I really appreciate all of you and FF!

Good morning all,
Yesterday we (my son & I) bought an '05 ZX3. It,s blue, not Sonic blue or dark blue but a medium blue, 5 speed manual xmission, 45,525 miles, it's totally stock and will most likely stay that way. Tires will be replaced soon with Falkin's and the only other change will be the oil every 3k miles or so. Glad to be part of this forum.

well, guess I need to do this and get it outa the way... Currently I'm driving an accent with tranny issues. It's great on gas but, pick up and of course the tranny is a major problem right now. The same place I got it has a 2K ZX3 that I'm looking into so, I should be in it Tuesday if everything work out right. Just doing some research and trying to get as much info as I can on that year model. Already looked at it, started it and it runs good. Gonna test drive it tuesday. It's a 5 speed and has 109K miles on it. It's black and looks fair for the year. I'm a modder from the Kia side of the house but, I had fords b4 I had Kias. Anyway, that's a little about me and who I iz.. [:D]

Hours from buying a focus

That's right, I'm in the middle of buying my 05 pitch black Focus. It's the super base model, which I'm fine with since it'll be lighter, but here is a few things about me.

I'm in Austin, Texas, and I'm in a band called "The Banner Year" in which I play drums.

I work as an assistant designer (for now, should be getting rid of the assistant title in not too long) at a small advertising company here in town.

So here are my plans for this vehicle

First of all, it's got steel wheels, which have got to go. I've been looking for a set of wheels to put on there. Preferably 17 x 7 ish (SVT size) and under 20 lbs. I NEED to do this this week because of state inspection, so if anyone knows of anyone selling a decent set of wheels or where I can get a good deal let me know

Now, on to the other stuff planned:
Cold air
Full exhaust (headers back)
Tein S.S. suspension with EDFC
(attempt) dry sump conversion
big bore throttle body
LSD conversion
SVT facia
front splitter
rear disc brake conversion
Stage 2 ish clutch (i might go higher...)
Lightened flywheel
um... that's everything off the top of my head.

The goal is to have somewhere around 250 hp.
I'm not looking to build the fastest focus ever, but I am looking to build a car that I can drive every day, get decent gas mileage and still enjoy on those windy backroads that the SVTs do so well on.

My younger brother has an 03 SVT, and my first goal is really to build a car that will outrun the SVT and any other car in that market (Civic Si's and such).

First thing I'm doing today is putting in spark plugs. I would put in an oil catch but I need to buy drum heads. They cost about the same, but the band takes priority this time around. hahaha.

I'd love to hear any tips and suggestions, so don't be shy to let me know what you think of my plan and if I'm missing anything.

Thanks a ton guys! I'm glad to be a part of this!

oh yeah, that's just what I know for sure I'm going to be doing. I'm still looking over how to get the rest of the power I need... I just have to find what i want to compromise...

I'm thinking to help get that power about taking out the rev limiter, adding some extra oil coolers and letting her red-line around 8500 rpm... Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Post in the performance chat section about that... your going to have to be FIed (forced injection: turbo or supercharger) before you can get close to that.. They sould be able to help you out

Hey crew,

I'm a writer based in Texas, and I just reviewed an '08 Focus sedan. I guess the first Focus was so good, that it was hard to review the new model without the old one in the back of my mind. :)

I think the review could be pretty helpful to first-gen Focus owners who have questions about the new one. Would it be okay to post a link to the video review somewhere, and where should I do it? I'm curious to hear opinions about what I got wrong, what I got right, and what I missed entirely in my review.

Glad to be here. :)

Hey guys..
Just thought I would introduce myself. I kind of fell into a 2002 Focus SE recently. I had an old '96 GMC Sonoma that has a dying engine.. Instead of me getting a new car (I'm a sophomore in college studying mechanical engineering) My dad went out and got an rx-7 and I ended up with his little ol' Focus. I have just been looking around in here getting some ideas on what people do to their cars.

No major plans for it thus far (school kills my wallet), I need to get it tinted..Maybe some headlights or something!

Hey whats up my names Ryan and I just got an 08 vista blue Focus SES Coupe w/a five speed. This is my 4th car.I traded in my 05 Nissan pathfinder LE for it b/c of the gas and it was getting worn out.I live in Chattanooga but I had to drive all the way to nashville to get the focus I wanted.i specifically wanted an 08 2 door w/a 5 speed b/c all Ive driven is manuals and I wanted a vista blue one.My local dealer wouldnt order me one or transfer it so I just drove up to nashville to get it.My first car was an 06 Mazda miata 3rd gen limited that I traded in for an 06 Mazdaspeed6.I had the mazdaspeed for a couple months till my dad passed away and I had to give it back to Mazda and i ended up getting his pathfinder.I mainly got the focus b/c of the gas milage and rebates and its cheap to run.So far ive only done some cheap cosmetic stuff to it but Im plannning on putting new rims on soon and getting the windows tinted. This is my first ford so I hope it doesnt let me down.[:)]
