alright, here's the compression test results:
cylinder 1 - 185 psi
cylinder 2 - 185 psi
cylinder 3 - 170 psi
cylinder 4 - 160 psi
There was also dirty oil in the plug cup when I unplugged the ignition coil power supply, and there is carbon build up on the spark plugs for cylinders 2, 3, and 4. Since these spark plugs were new when I put them in yesterday, to see carbon build up is concerning.

So, if I'm losing compression, could that be a head gasket problem? Would that also cause oil to leak out onto the ignition coil and injectors, and carbon build up on the spark plugs?

EDIT: I figured out that the valve cover gasket wasnt seated correctly on one side, which is where the dirty oil i saw in the fuel injectors and ignition coil was coming from. I've replaced that.

Know where you can find a wrecked Focus with a Zetec engine? That's one option for SPI owners. No more valve seat issues, and a 30 hp increase! We have threads on that in the Engine and Transmission swap forum. Really- it might be cheaper.

The low compression on #4 is disconcerting. You're not at 20% low yet, but not far from it. I would start a new thread entitled SPI Compression Readings, and ask others about their experiences.

Had the same issue with mine I found the cable that sits next to the throttle cable from the interior pedal was out of its seat. Center of motor toward firewall, (cable on left side) locked it back in place and have not the issue since. Hope its an easy fix for you.

Alright, this morning the check engine light comes on. I scan it, and it gives me two codes:
P0136 (and says to see codes p2270 and p2271)
P1131

So, those are both telling me that I'm running too rich. Did I screw up something when i reinstalled the fuel injectors?

So I was poking around, trying to see if I had a vacuum leak or some worn wiring, when I noticed a hole in the engine block, right where the ignition coil is. I could see oil leaking out, so I found a bolt that fits and put it in.

It runs a lot better now, but its not perfect. Also, cylinder 4 now has a compression of 175 PSI (up from 160 psi), but cylinder 3 is now at 150 PSI (down from 170 psi).
