0000 steel wool is a long time, old school, tried and true way to clean windshield glass. It easily removes the most stubborn residue wether it be bugs or tar or whatever. You can actually polish glass with 0000 steel wool. Have used it for the past 25 years. And its dirt cheap. Claybar is not good for glass really and is too expensive and you need to use a spray with it. And it won't clean the glass near as well as the wool. As mentioned don't use the wool on anything else cuz it will scratch paint and other surfaces. Nice to see someone smart enough to use this.

At work we use rubbing alcohol 70% and lint free towel. Just gotta be sure glass is cool otherwise the alcohol will streak.
