Just wondering if someone can narrow down the possible causes of my car's startup issue. I have an 05 2.0 Duratec Manual. Often when I start it up, I have to hit the gas to get it to fire. Otherwise, it'll crank and crank and crank but not start. Then, when it does start, it seems to be running on 2 cylinders, or one sometimes (barely running). I hit the gas again, then it smooths out.
Funny thing is, the scenario has been common SINCE NEW!
Appears to be a fuel delivery issue. Otherwise, Love this thing!l
common problem. there is a huge thread here somewhere about it. the turn the key on and wait until the seat belt chime stops seems to work for me most times.
TSB 05-9-16 was issued to correct this issue with 2005 2.0L and 2.3L MT's. My 2005 does it intermittently as well, especially below about 65 degrees or so. I believe it sometimes delivers too much gas, as depressing the pdeal will help it get going (usually accompanied by a puff of black smoke from the rich start). Note I have not had the TSB done on my car, but would like to.
