that's what it takes. You can pull it back enough to see the top of the belt, but you have to loosen the mount to get to the bottom of the cover. You'll need to support the engine from the bottom.
If you pull it back slightly and slowly, you shouldn't break it.
Just make sure you have a flash light ready to look as well.
And the Motor Mount really isn't that hard to loosen to remove it. And of course you can use a jack to pump up under the engine to support it.
