Hi All,
New to the forum. I'm going to be picking up my first ever focus in a week or so. 2013 Zetec in Candy Red (as the call it here in the UK). It's got the 'appearance pack' on it which upgrades to 17" wheels and rear privacy glass.
I'll post some pics up when I pick it up.
I like the Focus in the other colors (except for the frosted glass which looks like a geriatric color) but the silvers and black/grays while looking good standing alone they just blend into the scenery when in traffic unlike the reds and the Candy red really stands out in the day or night.
Hey everyone I'm new to this. I have a 2012 SEL Sedan that's ruby red. I live in wisconsin, so our tint laws are horrible. 50% in front, 35% sides and back. Not 100% sure on the back. Either way I want to do 35% all around. There's a lot of crappy places around here that are quoting me anywhere from $80-150. What should be the going rate to get my car done?
Also, I absolutely hate the chrome that's on the car. I hear everyone says, "You paid for that look so why not keep it." I want to make the chrome black and I'm not sure what I should do to accomplish this. I was told that I could plasti dip it. I'm leaning towards doing that so it's not a permanent option. Are there other ways I could do this?
Does anyone know if you can black out the headlights? Again the chrome is ugly as hell in my opinion. I've heard of take a heat gun to them and then nightshading them or something like that. How hard is it to take the chrome piece around the fog lights off?
Long story short, I don't know how long I'll have this car. I'm a full-time college student, so I don't have bags of money to get a ST right now. Any help would be appreciated.
$150-250 is generally the going rate fro a good job and make sure you get a lifetime warranty with the work from a reputable shop.
Not a big fan of chrome either so I plasti-dipped my foglight bezels and then applied a semi-gloss clearcoat over them so it doesn't look like the Dip and offers a little more protection and it can be removed still. Next up will be covering the chrome whiskers and eventually would like to buy a set of the black headlamps but not a priority unless I can find them for a deal.
Hi guys, been trying to follow this thread but a little confused. I have a new UK candy red Focus zetec s (November 2013). It came with a paint blemish, but Ford will be fixing that. I managed to get a stone chip on the hood (bonnet for those in UK). I took it to a local Honda approved body shop (couldnt afford Ford body shop prices), and they painted the whole panel. What my car appears to be is a tri-coat pearl finish with a hint or flake in it like other posters have said - but the new painted panel is heavily flaked metallic. Would the bodyshop have used U6 instead of RZ or vice versa?
Red color paint is a hard to match!
If your Focus is going to Ford for a paint blemish repair (warranty work my guess) why did you go to a Honda dealer to get your hood painted?
Learn by your error and pay the price to Ford.... Lesson learned!
I went to Honda car body repair shop, because A. It was 50 miles closer and i wouldnt have to take 3 buses each way and B. At that stage Ford were still disputing that the blemish was caused at manufacturing stage and not by me. Maybe if ford didn't describe a pearlescent paint as U6 red candy tint CC, when U6 also is red candy pearl tricoat, and red candy metallic tint CC and who knows how many other variants! So basically you are saying, Fords can only be painted by Ford body shops.... might be a of a shock to people who can't afford Ford prices. Pay ford Prices...no matter what they charge???..... maybe thats why they charge so much.
regardless of the shop they would take the paint code from the vehicle
I have seen up to 7 variations of a factory color when pulling the mixing formulas
air pressure and primer are just a few things that can change the finished look
Often shops will blend the repair over a larger area to hide the repair
Well just got car back from Ford, they repainted the wheel arch to get rid of the blemish and under warranty. Guess what? it looks more metallic than the rest of the car - i am pretty sure they would have gone by the paint code U6. The car was manufactured in september 2013, surely the U6 paint then is the same as it is now?
Candy and metallic colors can vary by the day at the same factory but they should have been able to match from the rest of the car which is the only way to really get it close.
Yeah, I've never really seen two RCMs that look exactly alike.
