ok some of u guys already know who i am, some dont lol first of all i used to had a 08 focus but it was stolen awhile ago so i fund a 05 st with alot of goodies (cossie cai, cossie im, magnaflow 2.5 exhaust, f2 header tuned by fswerks) for very cheap, anyways i was gonna turbo my 08 focus so i got some parts and decided to turbo my st as well :) here is the parts i got and have:

*3" magnaflow exhaust
*vaccum manifold
*fswerks intercooler
*60lbs siemens inyectors
*synapse bov
*intercooler pipping from ebay 2.5" hotside, 3" cold side
*diablo sport mafia
*turbo smart ultragate 38 wastegate
*ebay cast turbo manifold for a mazda3
*holset hx35 turbo
*exedy stage2 clutch with lightweight flywheel
*oil sandwich plate for oil feed line
*3" custom down pipe (cut and tack by me welded by a muffler shop)
*aem wideband
*jdm (ebay) boost gauge
*custom t25 to t3 turbo adapter

here are some pictures of the setup at the moment everything is bolted in and installed

much up and install of the intercooler on early stages

Yeah man I know :( hopefully is not the head gasket and is the thermostat Cause my a/c is not blowing the air that hot too so maybe is the thermostat

#66 ·
Lohh ok that's what I though I meant well idk maybe oem head bolts cause I want to build the engine next year and Ircc the arp studs they can be use only once right?

#68 ·
Oh really? F.. Yeah then I'll buy the arp then Thanks sleepyboy

#70 ·
Ok thank for the tip yeah it will be like 2 times only

#75 ·
Thanks everyone for the opinions if I have to change the gasket I m gonna use the arp for sure I been very busy @ work, I am gonna change the thermostat and im gonna make a test block to see if it is the head gasket but not till Wednesday on my day off :( lol

Lol it's killing me I'm even thinking in buying all the internals and build te engine lol but that could take me a while lol (not an option) haha

#79 ·
Lol yeah when I build the engine i will need to improve my fuel system as well there is no company that makes a ply and play setup?

Hey guys I just finish changing my thermostat and when I flush the coolant it was clean like no oil at all does anyone knows if there has to be oil in my coolant? If my head gasket is damage ? I'm thinking not but I want some more knowledge from all of you thanks

I'm confused...how bad did your car overheat on the dyno? Did they keep doing WOT runs back to back or turn the fans off? Has your car overheated before to make you change the thermostat? What makes you think the head gasket is bad?

When I took my car to McNews: First Ray did some easy pulls through the RPM band to check the base tune (which was pretty good). Then made some tweaks, loaded new tune (that took 5-10 mins with the XCAL2). Then 1 WOT run. Made some tweaks then loaded new tune (another 5-10 mins to load). Then 1 WOT run. Made some final tweaks and loaded the final tune (another 5-10 mins to load). Then the final dyno pull for numbers. Basically there was always cool down periods between runs while Ray tweaked the tune and then loaded it. Granted loading a tune with the XCAL3 is quicker but there is still cool down time.

What da heck was being done on your dyno runs? The Duratec cooling system is very efficient I never once had any issues with overheating even at ambient temps close to 100* F and sitting in traffic.

This is the thing my car has never over heated or it over heated in the dyno the problem was he was doing some adjustments in the base tune doing some crusing pulls and the temp went to almost 220* he said that wasn't normal that the temp should be arround 190 that maybe was wrong with my car probably te head gasket, and one of the problems I notice is that my heater didn't blow the air that hot and now that I change the thermostat obviously the problem went away I never hange the antifreeze before so I surely think that was the problem and about if he has ever tune focuses he has he tuned focussport423

^yeah Griz, I'm curious also. I'm wondering if the car had a cooling system issue prior to the dyno runs.

As far as the head gasket you could do a compression test.

The Focus is a different beast when it comes to tuning. You may want to consider going to a tuner with experience in tuning the Focus.

Well I just finish the block leak test and the liquid didn't change is color so I schedule a tuning sesion for tomorrow morning I let everyone know how it went :)

ok guys i took the car to my "tuner" and it was the same, he said it was gonna over heat and what not, im done with this guy. i did a datalog right know and the coolant temp didnt went above 216 and this was boosting and i even run the car really fast, i raised the boost to 9 ish and the afrs read 10.0 so it was richerthan that, my temp needle it was the middle (like always) the only thing is that out side is 38 degrees so its cold i will do some datalogs tomorrow during the day he said it went almost 220 at idle but not even. i Think his temp gizmo is broken

so how'd it go?

I've hit 220 before and I want to say I've even hit 230 before (n/a unwrapped header and SRI in TX heat). That was on my Auto meter gauge and using the Xcal, then the fans kicked on. As long has your fans are kicking in everything should be fine [dunno]. Of course I live in TX and it's hot down here. If everything is checking out with your car then I would find another tuner. Though it's good that they want to play it safe, but some cars run hotter than others, it's not like it's puking coolant everywhere.

lol yeah thats what im saying oh and i live in txs too ;) i think the summer heat is more here in el paso that in houston lol but yeah i never had any issues with over heating or anything

Depending on your ECU code the Zetec low speed cooling fan doesnt even come on till low 230`s and the hi speed doesnt come on till the low 240`s

Tuner should of told you to add a 180 deg thermostat and lowered the fans to come on in the hi 190`s and low 200`s this lowers your cooling temps and lowerss the knock threshold and the chance of spark knock
