Well, I just scheduled an appointment on Monday to get my update for my 6-speed dual clutch. Seems like some dealers are willing to hand over the update (another poster on this board did), some dealers will still give the ole "its not a torque converter" mantra, and some dealers (the one I just called) don't know that there's a TSB out there, and when researched will come up with it. And the dealer I called fell into the latter (after I went to another dealer who gave me the mantra).
I'm happy with my DCT but I'm willing to see what this new update does for the transmission (in terms of smoothness and less hesitation). Hopefully, I'll have some noticeable difference. Did anyone else get an update? If so, how'd it work out for you. I'll let you know my thoughts after a good drive on Monday.
Just wanted to say that its been a month since my wife's 2014 Focus HB clutch was replaced & its still running like a champ, no issues at all now.... Feels like a whole new car....
I would be interested in knowing how people are teaching their car how to shift. I have a 2014 and overall I am very happy with the car but at times it acts like it doesn't know what if it wants to stay in a gear or go to the next gear. I have also played with trying to teach the car how to shift but maybe I am going about it all wrong. I am hoping to get my vehicle in for an appointment next week.
brought my car in today, leak tranny fluid, bad shudder sound, jerks like crazy when clutchs hot. And the service guy at the front told me they will take a look at the car, but also said the current fix doesn't really fix the problem. They kept the car today, I have no idea what they are going to do. Are they telling me the truth? The tranny jerks so bad, sometime it wouldn't shift right in the middle of a intersection, which is a serious safety issue now. I don't know what to do.
I guess it's now my turn. I figured I would address it since I brought it in for an oil change and tire rotation today. I can no longer live in denial as I've experienced the following:
- Feeling of losing traction when accelerating from a stop, but without wheelspin. It's a feeling similar to losing traction on rails
- When lightly accelerating from a stop, barely pushing the pedal the vehicle will occasionally perform like too much gas was applied and a popped out clutch happens, causing undesired wheelspin
- Occasionally when merging onto the highway, the vehicle will go into neutral (simulates fully depressed clutch and full throttle). I have to let go of the pedal for a few seconds and back on to then accelerate normally
- Occasionally when accelerating from a stop, vehicle will initially move forward then simulates a sudden loss of power for a second, then continues to accelerate, all while not changing my foot on the pedal
- When attempting to accelerate, the vehicle will occasionally hold revs in 2nd or 3rd gear and just hang, before fully engaging the gear
I brought it in at 7 am, for some reason, they didn't hook my car up to the computer until this afternoon and something went wrong with the system they were using, The service advisor told me it would have to come back at 9 am tomorrow! I found this to be a bit ridiculous and asked for a rental as this isn't my problem and I made my appointment a week ago. Obviously they wouldn't hook it up to the computer if they couldn't sense anything with a test drive so I know something is of concern to them. Seems like they are treating me right here, so I may be inclined to purchase from this dealer in the future, just not something with this type of transmission!
I basically gave the service advisor in writing what I have been experiencing, including the fact of how familiar I am with this type of transmission and that I had a 2007 5 speed manual. This way we can skip the "do you know" part of the conversation.
I sent a PM to Meagan here as well.
I'm waiting for a call from the dealer to say my rental is ready and pick up something out of my own vehicle on the way.
The Service Manager at my dealer said that it drives best when you hold the accelerator constant through all 6 gears. This probably won't solve your problem, but it's easier to describe your problem to the dealer if you have a "routine."
Sorry, I was replying to HeisGreater330 and forgot to quote the message.
Quick update. After I got my rental, I had to stop by and pick up my parking pass for work. I was able to ask the advisor about the computer scanner malfunction and she said the dealership only has two and the other one was being used at the same time this afternoon.
Right before I left she said something that tipped me off that she was aware of something as she said there may be an issue with the clutches and asked if it occurs more when it's been running hot. The funny thing is I did a little bit of driving before arriving to see if I could hear it up in order for it to be more prominent. I told her that I take the highway to work and back and when it's had time to warm up, it does act up a bit more after I've arrived to work and hunt for parking. She said she will make sure the techs are doing their test when it's hot, not cold. She also mentioned the extended warranty several times. She's had this come up before.
I also have a close friend who has a 2012 or 2013 SEL sedan that has had multiple issues and actually warned me about it. I let him know I was very aware of the issues other have been experiencing. He told me to bring my car in ASAP, but this was before I was having any trouble. I didn't want to bring it in unless I knew I was experiencing the signs....which I now have about a year later.
Just called my service advisor today since I didn't hear anything. I was told that the parts are on order due to my clutches....surprise surprise. I'm happy the threshold that was needed during testing was hit! So I'll pick it back up tonight and hope I survive until the parts are in. Although following up isn't up to par, I've been treated right in every other aspect.
Just brought my wife's 2012 Ti in today. Had to get some warranty work done before the 3 years were up so I just mentioned the shuddering as I always do just so there is a record.
Anyway, this morning it was driving actually quite well even though the previous two days when my wife has been driving it was particularily bad. Anyway, mention it to the girl, she said theyw il look at it. I wasn't expecting much but she called back saying they need to order parts in so I can come pick it up for now and they will call when they are in.
After hearing all the horror stories of people's dealerships here, it's nice to get some decent response from the one I go to (Metro Ford Calgary).
So the dealership didn't want to do it. I called Ford Manufacture Customer Relation department, and they talked to the dealer, and they replaced my clutch asy, as well as cylinder asy. just got the car back, super smooth now. don't know how long it's gonna last though. Because on the receipt it didn't say anything about replace the input shaft seal. I don't know if it is include in the Asy kit.

My car has lost power while at highway speeds twice now and once on railroad tracks! I'm taking it into the dealer tomorrow. I've been trying to research but I'm honestly overwhelmed by the amount of "similar-but-not-quite" issues that are out there. What should I expect and what kind of advice can you offer? I'm going to ask them to write down whatever dtc codes pop up. I've attached the only items that show up for recalls when I log into my ford owner account but I also know that I've received other TSB's and notices by mail that I'll have to dig through my records and see if I can find tonight.

I think you may find relevant posts by doing a forum search for the word bogging and then see the thread names for what applies to transmission as a subject.
This happened to me when changing lanes at highway speeds and also doing left hand turns from a stop on warm days.
Thanks for the advice guys. I'm now thinking this is probably more closely related to the TCM issue. I found the paperwork talking about warranty extension for the seals but I'm trying to locate the details for the emission defect warranty.
My dealer did not have to replicate symptoms. Mine only did bad things after long drives (hrs) or miles of stop and go. They ran some diagnostics and timed the shifts and said it needed clutches just from that. Also took it apart and did the rear main seal too...
I have messages from both of you. Some forums show sent folders as empty until the message is read, but I'm not completely certain that happens every time on this forum.
I just got my 2013 Focus back from the dealer today. New clutch (version F) and seals installed. It shifts great. However is there break in period for these clutches that anyone knows about? Maybe to smooth out the clutch plates?
When I am coming to a stop (windows up), I heard a screeching sound (sounds like when your break pads are worn down only higher pitched). It did not make this sound every time. It also does it when you first take off but for little longer until it shifts gears and the noise stops. When I pulled slowly into my garage, I rolled the window down and listened. It is really a loud screeching sound. Then I backed out of the garage but it did not make this sound in reverse. Like to hear if anyone else noticed this with the new clutches.
I hope there is not a break in. I gave it the beans right from the get go! It does feel better. Way faster shifts, only dislike the the downshifts when you mash it are very slow. Mine used to slam down a gear very aggressively. Gone are the slow shift and a really annoying 2nd gear flare when it shifted into gear. My real issue was stop and go traffic after 15 minutes of it, even minimizing creeping forward, was a VERY jerky crunching behavior, haven't had a chance to see if this was cured.
I have no screeching noise. I was thinking I was feeling a chunk/thud as it shifted gears if I revved to around 4k between shifts but I think it is just the fast gear switches.
They did find I needed a new rear main seal when they were in there... I didn't even notice any oil leak.
Well took my Focus back to the dealer to find out where the squealing noise was coming from. Turned out is was a metal guard under the car that is supposed to keep snow off the rotor was rubbing the wheel. The mechanic moved this metal guard to where it was supposed to be and all is well. The dealer has been great. I have driven the car quite a few miles now and the transmission is shifting just fine.
Good luck everyone, I ran for the hills. Felt transmission starting to go bad again, so I sold it. Managed to get more than I owed for it, and got an 05 outback xt. Fun car to drive, and should be more reliable.
I hit 108,000 miles this past weekend, have already had my clutches replaced twice, and have been reporting a chatter to my dealer since last August. Have been to the dealer twice (once in August and once in January). Neither time could the dealer replicate the chatter/slippage/hard erratic shift/grind. The last time in I did take the tech for a drive and he mentioned it would need slippage at a 250 rpm variance and at that time we couldn't get the car to do that. They did tell me to bring it back in if the car acted up again but the problem was if it was acting up, I was nowhere near a dealer to report a problem.
Anyways I just want everyone to be aware of my situation and how ford will eventually leave every one of us hanging. Meagan has come up with absolutely no new ideas for me to do other than try another dealer over 70 miles away from home out of warranty or take the tech for a drive which I've already done. My concern that the slippage will be ten fold during the summer months has gone un addressed - is it a coincidence that they extended the warranty out to January 31 for those of us with over 100,000 miles? Middle of winter when the clutches like to behave themselves!
I call bs. Ford needs to be called out for exactly what it is with this situation. A crap company. The average clutches on my car have performed for less than 30,000 miles each. I've never heard of a manual transmission that needs the clutch replaced this often! And considering I have 108,000 miles on my car, maybe 1,000 of these miles are from city driving. Most are highway nw ith very little stop and go to even notice clutch problems/cause heat and wear on the clutches. Crappy design, shoddy warranty, and second rate customer service. Meagan can come here and act all polite and what not but in my situation she has done absolutely NOTHING for me. Thanks for Nothing ford. You have turned a ford guy into an "anything but a ford guy"
Well I took mine in today for the shudder. I know the seal was leaking and causing the problem. You could see the oil on the outside of the housing coming from the seam. They ran their diagnostics and found it to be slipping 288 rpm. And told me the had to take it apart clean it and then test. Didn't mention the oil seal. When I got the car back they told me they replaced the seals and the slippage was only 188 and now within spec. I asked how bad the clutches were worn and they told me they had no way to tell. So now I am stuck with oil soaked worn clutches that won't get replaced. Anyone else have them just do the seals without the clutches?
Search around for the actual TSB language itself, it calls for cleaning and not replacing of the clutches in certain circumstances. I believe under 500 RPM of slip and if it was made after a certain date calls for just a clutch cleaning. And when I say cleaning, it calls for FOUR cans of brake cleaner to be used. With a major thing like this it's a good idea to find the actual TSB and print it off to bring in too, so everyone is on the same page. Good luck!
I had my clutches and seals replaced 30Aug2013 been about 20K miles so far still a bit quirky at slow speeds. under 10mph. Just this past weekend the car acted as though it was in Neutral even though in D (Drive) pulled over and tried R, L no help then I went to Park and shut the car off. I restarted shifted to D and it moved forward. Went to dealer it through a code, U1013, they replaced a trans module and a seal, reflashed the PCM. So far so good for two days now.
I just had my "Shift Motor B" replaced to fix terrible 1-2 shifts when trans was cold. Work order said there was a code P087E. Still on the factory clutch packs as far as I know (Mine was a 5/2011 build), but I bought it with 39k miles on it.
Besides my 1-2 shift which was progressively getting worse, my trans normally acts really well. No grinding or rough shifts unless I'm in bumper to bumper traffic when it's hot out. Hoping this is the cure I needed! Shifts already feel "tighter" and much more like my gf's 2014.
Dropped the car off first thing this morning, picked it up about 6 hours later. Had TSB 13-0197 done on my 2013 Focus SE sedan DCT built May 23, 2013. That is a full clutch assembly, seal and bearing replacement.
I had made the appointment on account of seeing the leak during an oil change and then confirming the leak a little while later. Later determined it was the transmission. Waited 2.5 months for the parts to come in. I never experienced slow speed shudder that seemed out of the ordinary, although with the new clutch i crawled a whole lot and couldnt even MAKE it shudder. My symptoms were experienced on the highway when passing, about 5 times, going into neutral at speed.
Fraser Ford SVT in Oshawa gave me no problems, no run-around, no BS. I described what I knew, brought in a page of notes with other details I won't bother with here and they predicted at the counter that it would be slippage. Details of the invoice are:
"Checked and confirmed leak at bellhousing. Referenced TSB 14-0197 reprogrammed PCM/TCM test for slip recorded a slip of 556. Removed transmission for inspection found lower input seal leaking bad also engagement bearing leaking leaking grease all over clutch. replaced seals, clutch and bearing."
Was advised of the reset break-in period and my drive home was, I'll admit, a lot smoother at low speed than the car was at 7 AM today. Fingers crossed that's the last I have to hear of it. I know I know. I'm crossing my toes too.

Break in? I was told there was none, and "drive the hell out of it" to see if it works now. Im seeing very fast shifts that almost clunk when going into gear its so fast... very slow downshifts too...
I became one of the lucky ones getting someone else's ordered parts. I still have to wait until early March as I need my car to get to work. It's interesting reading about issues after 100,000 miles. I love my car, but in dumping it at that point as I don't want to take any expensive chances once it's out of warrenty. I may end up with a fusion or edge in 5 years as I love how close my dealership is, and they gave taken pretty good care of me, considering I did not buy my vehicle from them (got it used from a chevy lot).
After 3 extensive updates to my 2012 SE 6-spd auto, I was in hog heaven for about 6 months. Now, with 59,000 on it, it's shuddering again. My dealer is useless since the son is in charge now that dad's retired.
What's the latest 'fix', if any? Lemon Law update?
Help!
When was your most recent trip to the dealer for this?
