Sorry for all the questions lol. Just want to know what I'm getting into.
I used duplicolor bed armour. 11.99 (IIRC) a can at oreileys. didnt sand any of the surface. sprayed right over top the clear coat and all. wiped down the entire car with laquer thinner, let dry, then spray. the exterior took right around 6 cans (spray cans) and when i did the rear interior (from the driver seat to the hatch) floor and walls took right under 2 cans.

my best tip i can give you is when and if it starts to run, which it can do on vertical surfaces, just dab it with a towell. the finish isnt really important cuz its textured anyway, so a light dab with a towel on the run spots just erases any mistakes. dont wash it for a good 2-3 weeks after you paint it as this stuff takes a good while to fully cure. and if you get a scratch on it, just shake the can and hit it again, blends right in!

I would sand the surface though, in a few years the bedliner will start coming off because the paint or more specifically the clear coat is heating up under the thick berliner and causing it to crack and blister... and bedliner bonds to the surface, if the surface fails the the bedliner will fail... I've known guys that have just done the quick and easy job on there truck beds and wished they hadn't...

Yeah, it would be sanded beforehand. Its gonna take a while to hit all the metal but I really don't want to do it twice lol

depends what the purpose of the car is.
if your going to use it for race purposes I would highly recommend talking to and reading the sanctioning body rules about what is and isn't acceptable. some forbid any type of coatings other than paint on the interior.

My friend has an electric sander and I can just hit it with a high grit count sandpaper on low RPMs just to establish a profile. Shouldn't take too long.

Someone suggested Lizardskin, and I found this stuff which has a very similar compound. May be worth checking out, its cheap and rolls on. And, if it is only as thick as a credit card when finished, like it states, I could always just hit it with a thin layer of bedliner for looks, since this stuff is white.
