SCCA vehicle class question

My college participates in SCCA regulated Autox sponsored and hosted by a local sports car club.

We have a Street Tuner class 90 Honda Civic and are currently building a 89 Mustang SVT Cobra clone from the top down. We want to participate in Street Modified class.

I have a copy of the SOLO rules but I'm looking for someone who knows the rules well enough to answer my question. A time saver for me, really.

I have a friend who is looking to do a solid 8.8 axle conversion on his 2003 SVT Cobra. If the Street Mod rules will allow, I'd like to buy his IRS setup and convert the 4 link solid 8.8 in the 89 to IRS from the 03.

Is this a legal modification for Street Modified?

We originally planned to run the car in Street Tuner with the Civic so I'm fairly competent with the rules of the ST class and the language within forbids any suspension modification that changes the location of the upper and lower control arms. Obviously this would be the case with the IRS.

But since I'm not familiar with Street Mod rules I'd like to know if the SM class would allow for this type of modification.

Thanks for the help!

16.1.E. Suspension components are unrestricted as long as they use the
original attachment points. For the purposes of this rule, “suspension”
is defined as any item that is designed to move when a wheel
is deflected vertically. This includes shocks and struts, control arms,
steering knuckles, uprights, etc., but not tie rods, steering racks, and
subframes. In addition, shock absorber/strut upper mounts are to be
considered suspension components.

I think you could do it, if I remember correctly the cobra IRS uses the same chassis mounting points. If I also rememeber correctly, the geometry for the IRS isn't that great, not sure why or how it would impact the car in autox though.

You def want some subframe connectors, I've seen some funny pics of old floppy fox bodies on r-comps :D

Thanks for the help. I know the mount points are very similar between the Cobra and GT of newer model years...and I know they are very similar between Fox and SN95... but I'm not so sure I'll be able to get away with the original locations between IRS "new edge" body and fox. I'll keep checking. Thanks for the info!!
