A member mentioned about having a sticky for the MFT sytem and I thought it was a good idea. Here's the thread for owners to discuss the MFT system, talk about and share issues they are having and to even share solutions. I know there are several MFT threads already out there, but we gotta start somewhere. Please keep this clean as it's going to be for everyone's benefit.
I found after a year of trouble with BT had to do with my issues. No issues whatsoever with my moto Droid RAZR Maxx. The update seems to work well with what I have. I do not have nav. Old phone htc rezound.
Does anyone know how to populate the Favorite Destinations list for use in the voice command system? I have several saved Favorite Destinations in my MFT Nav system. I selected to turn on the voice setting for each Favorite. However, when I attempt to set one of these favorites using voice MFT tells the the list is empty.
My process of trying this is to:
1. hit voice button on steering wheel
2. say "Navigation"
3. say "set destination"
4. say "favorite destination"
At this point the MFT tells me the list is empty. How do I populate the list? I've done a search on this forum as well as looking at the manuals and can't find the answer. I also looked through the MFT including the Nav and Settings areas and can't find any settings that might apply.

Last time I tried thats how I got it hope that helps
Noticed a new bug today. If you voice command a Sirius channel from a radio station you were listening to. The channel will change to the channel but the metatag for the channel will display whatever it had been played in the past. You must directly tune the channel or switch channels to get the song title straightened out.
On a positive note; before 3.6.2 when accessing the browse lists of artists/albums etc. on my ipod (roughly 9k songs) the alphabetical headings wouldn't cycle all the way through. For instance, the A-F setting would go A, B, A instead of A, B, C, etc. Noticed now after 3.6.2, they all cycle through as they should. Been a long time coming but glad it's finally fixed!
Nice! I've thought about using the spare Crucial M4 64gb SSD I have as a dedicated media hub for the car... but then I realized I have an old netbook that doesn't get used for anything so last night I put the SSD in it and put Ubuntu 13.04 on it. Surprisingly the issues it had a few years ago when I tried with Ubuntu Netbook Remix (no working WiFi or sound) worked 100% out of the box with 13.04! Woo.
Appears faster and more responsive...
The Wifi keyboard is showing now so I've connected it to the house...
The reverse lines on the screen is showing now...
Is it still going to lose its mind while I'm using it as a GPS, I'm not sure. I haven't yet given it enough time. I've resigned myself to using my phone again. But since this update, I'm going to try using it again.
Since the update many things have been improved, but I have one new annoying bug. Sometimes the clock decides to display eastern time instead of pacific time - so the clock is off by several hours. But then it will fix itself after a while. But another annoying bug is that the clock will just decide to set itself back 1 hour - like it isn't using daylight savings time - eventhough it is set. You have to manually change the time back to the correct hour. If you hit the reset to GPS time - it jumps back an hour.
So, since I'm tired of waiting for Ford to issue a new MFT update with a Zune fix, I decided to get proactive and put some music on a micro sd card I had laying around with a usb adapter.
Long story short I found a really easy (though involved) way to get exactly what's on my zune onto the card including the playlists. I stuck it into the car and it indexes and plays within 2 minutes and doesn't re-index when restarting the car.
The trouble is that MFT doesn't play a zune playlist unless its on a zune, so I had to convert them to m3u files. Excellent, now the car see's them. NOT excellent, it says that the files are empty. They aren't.
So I went and looked and the path was pointing at a location that wasn't the root of the card. So, I used notepad to edit the m3u file to remove the reference to that location, only leaving the folder on my card of my music. Awesome, works in winamp, perfectly. I stick the USB into my car and NOT awesome, it sees the files but continues to think they are empty.
What am I doing wrong? I'm super annoyed at the whole situation.
This is why I originally bought a zune years ago, was easy, fast and worked without having to second guess anything.
You need MediaMonkey. it can behave like the Zune software in that it has smart playlists that can auto-sync to an SD card. The playlists are readable by MFT if you save them as M3u Extended. They can be either in the root of the card or in a folder named 'Playlists'. Either works well for me.
Also, save yourself some frustration and embed the artwork into your files, 500kb or less in size. MFT can read folder.jpg files in the root of the album folder, but it much prefers embedded artwork.
My Zune-less setup works so smoothly now I'm not sure that I'll go back if they fix the compatibility. MFT was clearly designed with an SD card in mind. If only Microsoft's internal divisions weren't all out to get each other. When I think of what could have been in regards to Windows Phone 8 and the Zune pass subscription I still get angry.
Thanks for all the help, I'll give it a try. As a side note, how long does it take your car to recognize the card? It takes mine like 2 minutes and will actually go to the radio because it can't connect for so long. I switched the microsd from a full SD adapter to a usb one and it boots up much faster now but Id rather have those ports free.
Well, I'm now ready to throw my computer and car out the window. Media Monkey is good going forward, but doesn't even see the playlists I've already converted from zpl and tried to make work im m3u. I manually edited them in notepad and it STILL won't give me the tracks. Seriously, Ford should pay ME for this waste of time.
No doubt about that. Just like any manufacturer of a system like this though... they go for the major players first (i.e. iTunes/iPod) and those that are lesser known (i.e. Zune, which I haven't seen one in years aside from my OG one, lol) get pushed by the wayside unfortunately.
Yeah... I was actually thinking what kind of player I'd use if my zune went kaput, and I couldn't come up with anything. I refuse to buy Apple and my phone has limited space.

I dodged that bullet because I used smart auto playlists in Zune. They were based on tracks that I had marked with the heart. The heart in Zune translates to a 3-star rating in every other program - it stamps the actual file in Windows.
I was able to recreate the conditions in MediaMonkey where the playlist looked for anything that had a star rating.
I use a USB 3.0 SD card adaptor in the car with a 128 GB SD card. I know the car doesn't do USB 3.0, but I've found that even cheap 3.0 delivers the max 2.0 can do. SD read speed in the car is terrible. I index 5500 songs in 15 minutes, voice commands and all. When I tried it with the SD card slot it took twice that.
The ZuneHD took 35-40 minutes to index 5200 songs when it worked. The car is clearly designed for USB. ( and I meant to say that in my earlier post instead of SD)
Your post actually inspired me to make a test playlist with media monkey. I did and low and behold it worked, so I edited it manually with notepad to see what the difference was. Apparently, MFT can't simply take local folder locations without a . .\ in front of them. I used the replace feature in notepad to quickly edit all my playlists and boom, they all worked! Thanks!
By the way, you're right, the system must have been designed for USB or SD cards. All of my previous issues are gone. The songs index super fast compared to my zune and the cover art, voice commands and pretty much everything works. I would still rather use my zune though for cohesion and ease of use, but this will do. I did notice however that the ID3 tags don't get used as well any more. If you have an album that is a compilation that has many different artists (a soundtrack for example) it doesn't list the artist of each individual track, it now just reads the album artist - which I usually call VARIOUS ARTISTS. With zune it didn't do that. That's the only quirk so far though.
I upgraded to MFT 3.6.2 about a month ago and all I can say is that it's been fabulous - for the most part. My only real gripe is that my preferred back-up camera setting is with the red/yellow/green on and the curvy auto-park lines off and that's no longer an option. [mecry] But hey, the setting at least sticks now. Aside from that, it's pretty fast and predictable - just what you'd expect out of car systems.
But the wacky behavior is this: I have a 40 minute drive to work and I listen to audiobooks over bluetooth from my iPhone. Like clockwork, ~30 minutes into the drive I get a Windows error on the MFT screen for a second (can't read it) and the system reboots. It works fine when it comes back up and it reboots in about 2 minutes (SYNC maintenance progress bar, etc). It doesn't seem to do it when I'm not listening to my phone.
The error dialog is a real Windows error - I can't make out what it says. I'm usually doing 80 on the freeway, but can see enough to pick out the generic windows icon and window form. Sometimes it happens so fast I just get the outline of the box.
But it happens every morning. Happens every evening. Anyone have anything similar?

Is this only happening with audiobooks, DP, or is it anything you happen to be listening to on your phone? Also, this was not happening before you installed 3.6.2, correct?
Yes, only with audiobooks. I happen to only listen to audiobooks if I'm not listening to satellite radio. It never occurred before 3.6.2.
Specs are: iPhone5s (iOS7.0.2), playing via bluetooth, also connected via USB (for charging). Playing app is Audible.
I can't say if it started with iOS7 or MFT 3.6.2, as I updated MFT and my old phone (iPhone5 from iOS6 to 7) almost at the same time. It occurred with the old phone too.
My first couple experiences with the reset coincided with someone driving close enough to me to set off the parking sensors - the MFT rebooted almost immediately. I thought they were linked somehow. But now, it's been long enough I think it's purely time dependent.
I actually figured out a pretty easy way to keep my player and stick synced for ease of use. Although in my case it involved a second computer with no music on it. I'm sure there's a way in iTunes or within Windows explorer, I'd definitely experiment and try it out. Just fyi, I'm using a class 4 32gig microsd card in usb adapter.
Any way to get Sony audio system with MFT to display cd track title and artist name on commercial cds? They all say unknown track and artist. I'm assuming MFT doesn't include the necessary data. Cds made from mp3s of course show the info as metadata is embedded.

What do you mean by commercial CD? Normally putting an actual music CD in displays all relevant info. Once in a blue moon I'll see a CD that doesn't, so it's likely the CD and not the system.
These were 2 music cds purchased about 10 years ago. I'll try some more tomorrow. As you said, I'm hoping it's the cds and not the system although I did find some other complaints about this on other Ford forums.
Ok, I tried 10 more commercial music cds and none display the artist name or track info. What connection or setting am I missing? Does the system have to access some database such as Gracenote? If so, what's the process?
Most of my old cds don't have any kind of meta data. If you are the moderate technical sort and want to be sure it's not your car, you could rip a CD to wave, write your own tags using a program like Nero, and then burn to cd-r.
As if the software glitchs were not enough, my MFT display has died. I have tried the fuse pulls numerous times. Finally went to the dealer so I can pay $90 to tell me my display screen is bad. They apparently pulled the negative battery cable since my trip info is all reset. The part is $650 and is on national backorder. I can pay up front to get my place in line for a replacement, but it is still expected to be a few weeks. National backorder? Sounds like there are a lot of them being replaced. Fortunately, the car has redundant climate controls, so at least I have heat & AC. I asked if the display is part of the APIM (which has a 5 year warranty) but, they say no. The car is just out of warranty by mileage. I guess I debated whether to get an extended warranty too long. Has anyone found any descriptions of the parts for the MFT system? I can't find anything on fordparts.com. If I can even find a salvage replacement, I don't know if it has to be programmed after installation. Anyone out there with some solid technical knowledge on this system?
We are looking to replace a 14 year old SUV and had only looked at Ford (Explorer or F150). I'm glad we didn't already make our decision and buy. We're now re-thinking buying Ford at all. Not just because of the MFT problems, but the way Ford has addressed it or more accurately, not addressed it.
About a month ago, my screen popped too. First time I took it to the dealership, they said all I had to do was install the new update and the screen would come back on. Well after waiting for 6 hours in the waiting room, they came and told me it didn't come back to life.
Dealership kept trying to tell me that it was my aftermarket sound system that killed it. I guess trying to make me pay for it instead of exercising my warranty? (Protection by Lemon Law)
But anyways, after calling the audio place I had it done at, and explaining to the dealership that they didn't do anything to the headunit. All they did was use the wiring at the rear of the trunk with the factory amp, and there's no way, that would kill the screen, they finally gave in with the excuses.
So they finally ordered a new screen about 2-3 weeks down the line. and said if it goes out again, then I have to take the system out. 3 almost 4 months running and haven't ran into the same problem since. Screen was a dud from the dealership. Probably shouldn't have drove the one of the showroom floor but oh well lol.
